Will not Drill / lift to move around a cable. Wanted to a 15 USB flash drive for my media center, but then saw 20 when local trader offers this router / AP / Bridge and am curious. Thought about the money I'll try, because the Bridge 1) does not require any drivers that often cause problems and 2) the Asus has 4 LAN ports. This allows me to also connect TV and console via LAN cable, without having to annoy me with drivers.
I was skeptical because a wireless bridge mode is not explicitly in the Asus description, only a wireless repeater mode. Last would have the disadvantage that clients can only connect via Wi-Fi, and that therefore the client connection to the repeater and the repeater uplink from the routers share the bandwidth - that is only half as fast. But the good news: the Asus the repeater mode also works automatically as a LAN Bridge, so client LAN router Asus Wireless Bridge. And in 802.11n mode with 300Mbps, when copying a large file 10MB / s. Am thrilled!
Setting up was extremely easy and self-explanatory. Easy on the PC / notebook disable all other connections, and in the browser on the Asus under 192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1?) Connect. There play through the setup, click Repeater mode, connect to existing Wi-Fi. Then the only possible stumbling block follows: of course the link no longer works because the Asus indeed gets a different IP address from the existing router / DHCP server. The I just read in the existing wireless router, and awarded fix for the future the same via DHCP for Asus MAC address. From there the thing just works only!
I'm really excited had expected more trouble, or so that did not work. Now radioed the Asus obediently from the living room with lightning speed 300Mbps / 10MBps to the study, even after restart.
Supplements:
1) Have the same installed the new firmware. Model RT-N12 D1, download under [...]
2.) You can enter the repeater mode the same SSID + password, but selected their own SSID. Thus the clients with the TP-Link Routers connect instead with the Asus, the Asus and remains the full bandwidth for WLAN Bridge / Uplink from the media center to the router.
UPDATE: after several days I can only say: fast, reliable. Works perfectly, and looks good too.
UPDATE: after 3 months the thing works just. Stake even after power supply, computer Stakeout / standby, all wonderful. Wishes have fun with it, P / L is perfectly what I mean!
