Pergolesi: Stabat Mater (CD)

Customer Review

There are so many versions of this masterpiece composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in 1736, two months before his death at the age of twenty-six years - "baroqueuses" versions with male voices versions or "modern" with female voices - which can be reluctant to say something about it, the more so when one risk and do I dare to express themselves in a rarely frequented universe: to What for?
But about this masterpiece of absolute beauty, how to repress the urge to tell the absolute beauty of two voices, under the direction of Maestro Claudio Abbado, make this recording a jewel?
Margaret Marshall, soprano, and Lucia Valentini Terrani, contralto.
Both sublime.
Lucia Valentini Terrani (1946-1998): it is to her that these few words fly.
Carried away too soon by a disease that will link its history to that of José Carreras - they were treated in the same hospital, he defeated leukemia, she was defeated by a throat cancer -, Lucia Valentini Terrani, sumptuous and stunning Rossini mezzo-soprano, is to cry of wonder in this Stabat Mater, one of those rare works that give a real perception of the universal unlikely.
This recording is beautiful.
