Criticism there can be only the trappings of this DAC actually - there is in my view quite a bit of what you could do better. Much of it you know certainly in advance before buying the device, but I would like to mention it anyway:
a) the power supply: smaller and cheaper it was no longer - the part is warm and powerful considering the size, it soon becomes clear that there is no high-quality audio power supply may be. The optional AC adapter by MF is priced no alternative - I will probably build a linear power supply with toroidal transformer and ordinary stabilize itself ...
In some reviews a fiependes PSU complain - I could not understand in my.
b) the socket of the coaxial SPDIF input: it is not secured to the housing, but only on the board soldered. Since most RCA plug of digital cables sit quite tight, here a damage with frequent changes of the cable is inevitable. Why MF has not chosen as a screw jack the audio output, me remains a mystery.
c) the layout of the inputs and outputs: these have on opposite sides of the device, making a meaningful position in the rack impossible - you can hide only the part somewhere in the second row. Then to use the anyway fummilgen switch between SPDIF and USB, as is quickly acrobatic number ...
d) the fiddly little switch between SPDIF and USB inputs
e) No switching between SPDIF coax and optical
f) no USB cable beiligend
My conclusion: if it did not sound so damn good, would me called compromising too much of a good thing. If, however, the focus lays on the Audioqualiäten, then you come to this DAC difficult past in this price range. Everyone has to decide for themselves which aspects weigh personally more ...
Audio from me 5 points, use, processing, equipment 3 points - making a total of 4!
