My first impression
When a few weeks ago the Promo "Do It Again" was released, I was very skeptical. I thought that the Chemical Brothers have now finally lost her musical talent. As a fan the first hour to hear the still something immature. "Come With Us" is for me still the best album of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, and so I could not believe what I got to hear as in "Push The Button". That did not fit my idea of a successful sequel. A produced for the mass audience album that only vorwies few high-quality electronic music. And just as then also sounded "Do It Again" on.
Now that I have the opportunity, but once had to listen through the new album, I have to change my mind. I think "We Are The Night" for quite successful and will certainly buy me the album and also recommend.
Musical direction
The album is musically back clearly in the direction of "Surrender", which would be by no means negative. Many surely remember the (many fälschlichweise as "techno anthems" designated) Tracks "Hey Boy, Hey Girl" and "Out Of Control". Tracks like my favorite "All Rights Reserved" or the title track "We Are The Night" go back in exactly this direction. A Special Surprise offered me the track "Saturate" which is a true Big Beat track in the classical sense. I had heard it many months ago and I thought then that exactly this would track superbly fit on a new album. And lo and behold, he is actually there! Elektronica true here as in the days of "Dig Your Own Hole" on pounding drum breaks. Too bad that it then but in the one true Big Beat track remains. "Surrender" was also relatively quiet pieces to offer, which can also be found on the latest work. In particular are the "The Pills Will not Help You Know", "Harpoons" or "burst generator".
Pieces which step out of line
But fall completely out of the frame pieces like "Salmon Dance" and "Battle Scars".
I do not know what came over the brothers in "Salmon Dance"! The poetry is certainly very funny, just does not fit this dance instructions with Fatlip and "Sammy, the Salmon" on the album. 'Very useful' is the information as a whole Fatlip Club brought to dance like salmon swimming upstream. No Joke! (Quote:. "... The whole club thing dancing like the salmons flow in upstream" I wonder how that might look like Please, please, please make a music video to !!! Moreover, we learn juicy details about life! as salmon! I hear now on, because the track is simply too ridiculous!
Anders itself as "Battle Scars" behaves. I do not know exactly where to place the best or what it could be compared. Perhaps with a dash of Apollo Four Forty's "Forty Days For" mixed with a song which somehow reminds me of the voice of Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode). Add to this a very danceable beat. All in all a very interesting mix, which one has never heard of the Chems. The quote: "There's No Path To Fallow" it actually brings to the point. Unfortunately I can not comment further on the poetry now, because I would have to me the track still can listen a few more times. When I understood that with my modest English skills properly is basically of a boy who opened up for his people in a still unexplored land ("The Land of the Dead"). Ask me which was not the object of his journey, because I have not heard the first time by any mitgekriegt. As "Battle Scars" means "war wounds" means you can still start from a 'Bad End'.
Conclusion
I personally like the album, as already mentioned, very good. However, a perfect album to experiment with different sampled instruments, as they have been integrated for example on "Come With Us" excellent'm missing after all. What I had already mentioned, was the absence of another Big Beat tracks, so with crack of drums. Because of this, however, has completely missed the two previous albums, it can only be positive, that in "We Are The Night" is a find. The guest vocalists are completely unknown to me, but did a good job. Very strong 'Willy Mason' in "Battle Scars". Unfortunately then missing but unmistakable voices like that of 'Noel Gallagher' and 'Richard Ashcroft'.
Personally, I think "We Are The Night" for a lot more successful than "Push The Button". Definitely recommended. Heard in every closet of a lover of high standing of electronic music.
