This novel suffers from two main problems:
- First of all the great author's knowledge of Paris, including the 5th and 13th districts, thus throughout the first half of the book, he places both historical pages of a particular monument or building certainly interesting, but totally chopping action, which considerably the conduct of the narrative; it would have been preferable for the author to write a historical book about the city rather than attempting to introduce these concepts in his novel.
- Secondly, if the basic story is attractive (a sudden flood of the Seine threatens to destroy Paris), its outcome is drowning (no pun intended ...) in a fantastico-mystical embroglio which was the struggling to join and the fate of the characters is shipped from pretty ridiculous way, all in a fairly childish style.
Lives in the neighborhood where the action takes place, I was however nice to represent me the described places, and even to discover that I did not know; this constitutes the only positive that I will draw this novel.
