I hereby would like to briefly tell the advantages and the disadvantages of the Canon EF 17-40mm USM f4L. I have the lens then ever used at a 500D (APS-C), sold, and now for my 6D (small picture) bought again (Who would have thought that I would ever have a film camera?).
++ Color rendering (coincidence? Depending on the camera? Attitude thing ?, I know is that the colors are especially beautiful and strong in this lens)
++ Haptics (rings running nice and smooth, feels sturdy, rubber lip on the bayonet, Feeling overall top!)
++ Autofocus (quickly and accurately, but my copy has probably the way it looks at 40mm at close range a very slight back focus of the camera can be corrected)
+ Price (the Canon EF-S 10-22mm for the APS-C. B. costs considerably more and has no lens hood or bag supplied)
+ Sharpness (see also minuses)
- Sharpness in the corners (in the corners, NOT at the edges, the sharpness 1cm rapidly decreases, the radius corresponds to an A4 printout max in the corner, the rest is nice and sharp so not as bad as ever..! is alleged!)
Total: Total Hamma! My 50mm remains so for most photo tours at home and will probably be used only when dark family gatherings again.
