I've gotten to keep two of UPS in use to power failure, the IT infrastructure on the course: One on one Synology DiskStation (which easily recognizes this and supports UPS), the other on the Linux desktop that acts as a server. Since the routers / switches in between hanging on the two UPS has saved me this combination already twice the cloth: When the lights go out, just save your work and let's see what's going on is. If necessary, shut down cleanly or wait (or continue) until the power is back.
A little anecdote: the first-ever power outage (not included) has one of the UPS itself caused because the charging current after power for our added electrically not necessarily modern and partly a little strange old building was too much.
