The carton is smaller and lighter than meets the eye. The gift victims could not imagine what could be in there yourself. After unpacking it was clear: it is about a sound system. The aim was to connect them to an existing TV via optical cable. Here appeared the first "small" problems on: Opposite the Z5500 includes one the sources to the subwoofer cube behind and no longer to the control unit. That's why you need correspondingly longer cable, because usually the Subwoofer farther away from the source is as the control unit. The "problem" but is really nothing negative, because luckily there are enough long cable.
What also noticed: the control unit is designed as a flat case and not more than standing. This makes it fit better under the TV. The standing body of the Z5500 is more suited to a computer desk next to the monitor. Another advantage is that the control unit has no LCD screen, but the most important shows on orange-lit LEDs. This not only looks cool, but is much more practical than the LCD of the Z5500. My fear to get less information has thus not confirmed, and I find the new controller also visually high. It also displays immediately which speakers addressed by the system in which mode (Stereo, Stereo 2x, 5.1, etc.). In such a way that one can readily appreciate the problems on longer distances. Oh the volume LEDs are much more practical than the display of the Z5500. There, the viewing angle must be right to read it, in the Z906, the LEDs light up (the more, the louder) surrounding the volume wheel. As I said, not only looks cool, but is virtually doomed.
Now I come to the sound. My fears that the bass "smaller / less" could be has not been confirmed. The plant makes rich bass and each film is thus in the living room to the cinematic experience. The volume is sufficient for rooms in size from approx 30-40qm loose. The bass is very clean and goes very deep. If one 2 rooms away, but the plant is barely heard. This means that the system makes their sound output with brains. This means that the bass sound pressure is generated, not only because of what it would be the case for large loudspeakers. But the electronics plays to produce a very large role to the listening experience.
When I connected the system and came out not from the TV, but from this plant for the first time the sound, I saw nothing but enthusiastic faces in the living room. There were still no 5.1. But you could "see" what lurks in the subwoofer. Very softly and gently heard you an incipient bass without that escaped out of the box. It was as if you knew: the same shaking of the ground, but only just the same. I was quite surprised, because at that time I believed the Z5500 and the Z906 take nothing. But I realized for further tests that the Z960 a little cleaner and reproduces full sound. The bass may be small, but the difference you notice / hear not one. On the contrary, I think the Bass the Z906 is faster "triggered" as the Z5500. This cuts the sound something appears "full". The highs and mids are, in my subjective perception also slightly better than the Z5500.
One advantage there is in the Z906: it has 2 optical inputs.
So I give the system clearly 5 star. Logitech has ever done anything wrong, especially at this price. On the contrary, anyone who expects a sound system in this price range, is ABSOLUTELY should this system look / listen again. Just to mention again: The Gift victim invited, who themselves have assets worth 500, and were suddenly disappointed by this plant more than thrilled and of their own with it. I emphasize: it is about systems in this price range.
