The main theme is also represented here again, though not as often as in Season 1, actually only in the Main Title and approaches in the Action titles. But the king's mouth theme is heard again (The Throne Is Mine), this time very dark and evil. But Djawadi composed some new pieces and motifs:
The Night Watch, for example, gets a surprisingly heroic motif that was already indicated at the end of the first scores. The Brotherhood receives a mystical piece. The ascending motif fits very well to the mysterious Brotherhood, of which one still finds little in the second season. A little oriental sound is also included in with the play.
Another issue we hear in Winterfell, that was indeed heard in approaches already in the first soundtrack, but here it unfolds much more impressive and soulful, with approaches from Kill Them All from the first score. The theme for Winterfell and the Starks!
In Mother Of Dragons even the beautiful motif finals (first score) returns, apparently now Tagareans victory motif. But there is also a return from your subject from the first part in House Of The Undying.
I Am Hers, She Is Mine is a very touching and beautiful composition, perhaps as a love theme (?) For Rob and his wife serves Anyway, a great track that has moved me even in the series! Unfortunately, a bit short
And with Rains Of Castomere there also the eerie quiet ending song that can be heard uncredited of Episode Nine.
As I said there is here much more action to what makes sense, when you think of the great battle in Episode Nine Stand And Fight or Do not Die With A Clean Sword are very good example of this!
Djawadi composed again pieces that pounce at first glance not much, but develop in multiple listening their power, especially if you know the scenes from the series. It would for my taste still may be a bit more music (here we have about ten minutes less than in the previous, say 58 minutes), although the selection is very well done and especially the end (Three Blasts) makes hungry for more or to a re listening test.
Conclusion: Driving, pompous and a somber mood, all this and more is offered by the music of Ramin Djawadi. Game Of Thrones Season 2 is also expected to appeal the fans, especially the Friends of Music. Again, no milestone in film music, sure, but a more than appropriate and coherent Score of a spectacular series!
