BioWare's masterpiece

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition (computer game)

Customer Review

Bioware RPG Dragon Age: Origins is wrapped like a bomb. It is an epic masterpiece that are teeming with charm and wit, a varied and interesting combat system and a sensational story has. All this, coupled with interesting drawn characters and a variety of opportunities for interaction within the Fellowship, makes the game so special. As with any successful game there was then still an addon and several small enhancements in the form of DLC's. Now Electronic Arts has summarized the contents appeared to Ultimate Edition. But the Ultimate Edition is worthwhile at all, Bioware delivers superior quality from usual or it is just a lukewarm imitation, which was cobbled together carelessly, to pull the customer the maximum of money out of his pocket?

The Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition includes:

Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age: Origins Awakening
The Stone Prisoner
Warden's Keep
Return to Ostagar
The Chronicles of darkspawn
Witch-hunt
The Golems of Amgarrak
Leliana's Song

Added to this are a Blood Dragon Armor and gifts, and fun stuff that you can calibrate his companions in order to increase their confidence or lower. Dragon Age: Origins is the main game and Awakening is the addon that is not true as extensive as the main game, but also has a good scope. Everything else is small extensions that provide no more than 2 hours of employment.

Dragon Age: Origins

After character creation, where you can choose gender, class and race and origin, one experiences first of the origin story. When choosing the class you're limited to rogue, mage and warrior, but each having 4 specializations. Specializations can be chosen at Level 7, 14 and 22 again. Depending on the selected origin (eg noble man), then you will experience one of 6 different initial stories. These eventually run all down to is that the protagonist joins the Grey Wardens, an order, are its members exceptional powers to part, by performing a secret ritual accession. The purpose of this Order is to overcome the corruption by the darkspawn.

From the date of accession, all stories run in the same way. However, even with multiple playthrough not necessarily equal. Bioware's specialty is namely to put the player in front of all kinds of decisions that affect the gameplay sometimes more, sometimes less. Over time, the players increasingly close companions, with different skills and traits, to, from which one can choose three that support the hero in the fight against corruption. Here our choices made significantly influence how the companions are to us. Each of them has a Vetrauensleiste that reflects how far he or she agrees with our decisions. This goes so far that a group member leaves us, his confidence should be gone in us. On the other hand, it is possible that a fellow feels so very attracted to the main character, that a love affair with this is possible.

The battle system in Dragon Age is extremely varied and tactically. On the one hand you have the possibility to control a character itself and leave the remaining 3 act on the basis of preset or custom tactics. On the other hand, it is possible to pause time in combat by spacebar and to give each hero the commands individually. Due to the fairly sophisticated fighting a combination of both is most promising. In addition, an open possibilities to damage the enemies with self-made traps or acids produced. A classic crafting system where you can make weapons or armor, there is no case, however. It is limited only to the brewing of poisons, the manufacture of cases, associations and potions. With Awakening the possibility of runes production was introduced.

Dragon Age: Origins Awakening

Awakening begins after the events of Origins. The archdemon has fallen but the darkspawn does not take place as expected back but breaks down into different groups and fought each other now and with each other. The player is now the new commander of the Grey Wardens and is of Vigils watch out that once the traitor Earl Howe was one and now will serve as a new base, build the Order again and discover the secrets of the darkspawn to the bottom. It offers to this the possibility to import an existing heroes Origins or create a completely new. This starts with the step 18. If the imported hero not yet reached it is also raised in this stage 18. He is supported by 5 new potential group members and an old favorite from Dragon Age: Origins. There are for each of the 3 Class 2 new specializations, as well as to get hold of some powerful new abilities and lots of improved items. The story about the architect and the darkspawn is original designed and provided with some surprises. Generally, everything is a bit darker and held partly action-heavy as it was in Origins. However Awakening is also a good deal lighter than the main game, which I personally find a bit unfortunate. But on the whole it is a very successful addon that one but shortens the waiting time for Dragon Age 2 something.

In stone caught:

This DLC leads to the remote village Honnleath, in the beginning only the darkspawn, but no villager can be found. It begins when we get paid a golem control rod by a traveler, as we want to help him. He claims this bar bring only misfortune, however, is also a powerful tool that gives its owner the power to take control of a golem. This Golem is, as we know, the statue in the town square of the village Honnleath. But after we have cleaned the place of the darkspawn and use the rod does not happen. So we investigate the cause and come up against a mystery that remains unsolved in the village for years. After completing the mission you have the chance to win the Golem as a group member and thus receives a powerful ally.

Warden's Keep:

The Grey Wardens were expelled in a storm of blood and betrayal of Ferelden 200 years ago. This left their stronghold on the remote soldiers Summit, which has now overgrown and reportedly cursed. Now there is the possibility that long-lost chapter in the history of the Grey Wardens to fathom, to unravel the mystery of what happened and retake the fort for the Order. After installing the DLC you will find a man named Levy Dryden in his group camp, claiming that Duncan wanted to help him take the old fortress again. As our former mentor has fallen in the battle of Ostagar, we take his place and make our way towards soldiers summit. The story is told usual exciting and offers a surprise or two. In some places the fort is obtained by visions an insight into the events of that time. Aside from the obvious gain in experience for our group, there is still dust off some good items and 2 new skills that make life a little easier in Ferelden.

Return to Ostagar:

The great battle of Ostagar evokes a lot of memories in the remaining Grey Wardens. It destroyed the Order, calling the death of many great men and women. The player gets the opportunity again to return there and to take revenge on the darkspawn. It all starts in Bann Loren's lands on the northeast border of Bannorn where we meet a survivor of the battle. This asks us to recover the weapons and armor of the Fallen King. He had received the Schlüssle to the chest of the King shortly before the battle, but this hides the foresight in the camp. Of course, these resources can not be left to the darkspawn and so it is to involve us the weapons and armor. This and all other DLCs are actually much too short. Qualitatively, just like the rest of the game, however, absolute peak. I found the way super, again return to Ostagar and einzuheizen the remaining darkspawn. Here you get back a lot of items that are much better than the ones you get in the main campaign at the beginning. Thus, it provides just a beginner on to do the return to Ostagar, the Warden's Keep and The Stone Prisoner relatively early, as you look at the rest of DA in this way: Origins can greatly facilitate.

The Chronicles of darkspawn:

The city Denerim, the jewel of Ferelden is gearing up for war. As Hurlock Vanguard has the power to other darkspawn, eg Genlocks, screamers or ogres to make to his servants, and to lead them into battle. Thus equipped, you fight through the various neighborhoods Denerims, only to end up fighting on the side of Erzdämons against the remaining heroes. Remaining hero is because it does some of the group members from the main game already on its way through the city and, to my regret, rather unspectacular. It is very annoying that you do nothing of the otherwise excellent staging noted here because the beloved hero fall almost in passing. A rühmlicherer death or a small cutscene they deserved in any case. Otherwise, the chronicles of darkspawn is an entertaining pastime, though again quite short. However, it is in my opinion the least rewarding part of the extension and only for players interested who want to necessarily even fighting on the side of the darkspawn.

The following three DLCs are separate from the main game, which means there is not somewhere a NPC, the quest for one's, but they will start from the main menu starting. In The Crucible and the Golems of Amgarrak one also has to import an existing character the opportunity or create a completely new high-level heroes.

The Crucible:

Makes you never to look for me, with these words Morrigan vanished into the shadows, and both their plans, and their whereabouts remained a Geheimnis.bis now. Now the guards reached the news that she is traveling in the southern wilderness. Of course, you go in person to this matter. At the beginning you only have your dog by your side, throughout history still join the Elfin Ariane and the magician Finn to. You take on Morrigan's track at Flemeths hut. This will lead you to the temple of magic and then an old Elven ruins, until it comes to the finale on another known venue. As with all other DLCs you will again entertain excellent and there are again revealed secrets that you would not learn alone with the main game. However, it must be said that after the witch hunt more questions open than before. It's certainly a nice complement to Origins, but a few more revelations have done very well here. Finally, it was announced in advance that Morrigan's fate is revealed, one has noticed it but not much.

Golems of Amgarrak:

Thousands of years were forgotten the lost thaigs the Dwarves, but now they are back online. One of them is Amgarrak, which used some scholars had tried to revive the art Caridins Golem Creation. Now a representative on the ruins expedition is gone and you have to figure out the task of what has happened. It all starts with the fact that you received a letter from Jerrik Dace, a dwarf from Orzammar, gets, his brother was present at the lost expedition. So we start with him and his Bronto, called Snug, to find their way to his brother and the rest of the expedition. The difficulty here draws compared to other DLCs significantly. That's on the one hand a good thing, because it will eventually by Bioware touted as a challenge for experienced players. On the other hand, however, it is annoying that the increased level of difficulty is not due to the very tactical battles, but at the partially problematic group compilation. If you play namely a melee one has it much harder to cope with the opponents, as a magician as its main character. It would have been nice to be able to also import his companions from Origins. Nevertheless, the golems of Amgarrak, as usual, first class. The atmosphere is kept dark and the story is told accordingly exciting.

Leliana's Song:

Years before the threat of corruption, Leliana is a young bard whose devotion rather than the passionate singing of light. Her mentor Marjolaine will bring the orlaisianische game of intrigue after Ferelden and Leliana is eager to please her. It develops a story of deception and death to the young bard, which provides information about how it came about that she's finally joined the Church. Unlike witch hunt and the Golems of Amgarrak but you can not create a new character or import an existing, but it slips directly into the role of Leliana, which comes as a member of a criminal organization to Ferelden. She will be accompanied by 2 good friends, a dwarf warrior and an elven mage. The first orders for run Denerim where it is to stir up trouble on behalf of their mentor to distract from the actual coup. The staging is again at the highest level, the dark story is conveyed through the exciting, compared to other DLCs, frequent video sequences and characters complement each other well. All in all one can say that Leliana's Song is probably the most entertaining part of the DLCs and, although I had put more expectations in witch hunt because I had more interest in how to proceed with Morrigan.

Conclusion:

The Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition is worthwhile for everyone who wants to once again experience an epic adventure in an RPG. Great characters, a compelling story and a tactically challenging and varied combat system. These are the ingredients in Bioware's recipe for success. The price / performance ratio for the quality and especially the extent of more than well. Even if you already own Origins, it may be worth the Ultimate edition to buy because probably arise higher costs due to the purchase of individual extensions. Although the DLCs are very short and to the single purchase price perspective, but hard move at the limit they are, with the exception of the chronicles of the darkspawn, recommended all and make a good addition to the main history.
