As I read further down, this book is as much of the black novel of SF. It is immersed in the complexity and darkness of the human soul, through the pursuit of Tanner Mirabel and flashbacks about the history of the first fleet of settlers from space. Most of the novel is set in the city of Chasm City, riddled with rot Fondante, populated by destitute dominated by a caste of decadent and perverse immortal. The atmosphere is often heavy, unhealthy and even murky, still with action scenes (the hero is a killing machine) and some epic passages. The universe is searched, interesting, and I found the script rather good, with a complex plot based on several stories that intersect to finally join, even if the end is actually a bit farfetched. A good thriller SF.
