Bloody Irish Irish

War (1983) (CD)

Customer Review

This is not yet the Hollywood U2 fills stadiums, makes charity business, luxury guest appearances, her diva, what! Is even U2 Dublin suburb, already is training in the excellent reputation, the U2 War 1983.
And for once, I do my coming out, because I do not like U2 that I consider at best as a good singles group (Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day here ... and the desert), I am going to turn to the Twilight recommended webzine Guts of Darkness, which itself is not likely to spoil the fun (if you take with this stuff ...):

"If 'Boy' had allowed U2 to explode, the unfinished 'October' was halted this progression; for this third album, our four Dubliners know they have no room for error and no error there. '. No more will not spiritual doubts: the Russians invaded Afghanistan, Margaret Thatcher took power in Britain, Ronald Reagan in the USA, the violence continues in Northern Ireland, the IRA claimed number of attacks, unemployment hits hard ... For Bono and his band, one must take action, writing suffers, the band is not afraid to take a stand on certain themes (war, terrorism .., ...) 'War' is an angry record, but also of hope, which gives it its flamboyant touch Hymns, it abounds: 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', 'New year's day', 'Like a song '... Their melodic efficiency is total but we are far post punk skinned' Boy ', the combo has matured he has lost spontaneity. In the image of its cover (extraordinary in my of view), also this is a more subtle opus in its arrangements and its nuances, the musicians are not afraid to venture into quieter parts ('40', 'The drowning man') which prove true successes. 'War' is clearly a post punk album anyway, 'The refugee' good work with his percussion shows, like for 'Two hearts beat as one' where Adam Clayton explodes on his bass in addition to quick and sharp chords The Edge (which really does wonders with his guitar sound so typical). U2 has achieved its goal and proved that we were right to believe in him; 'War' loop unconsciously a trilogy, that of most post punk era; if various elements lead to assume that our Irish gradually turn back to their punk roots, is however only 'Unforgettable fire' confirming openly. Personally, I prefer 'Boy' but how resist the valor of this album? "

I would say well "ME I CAN!" but that would make the evil spirit ... And you, what do you think?
