Those numbers (without Dylan) are THE BAND the best that are ebanfalls highlights on the highly populated double album, especially "Up On Cripple Creek" and "Stage Fright".
Very strong is also the beginning of the first disc: DC the first five tracks ("Most Likely You Go Your Way", "Lay, Lady, Lay", "Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35" and "Knockin 'On Heaven's Door" and "Ballad of a Thin Man") presenting a confident Bob Dylan with an apparently good-humored and playful The band in the back.
The only downer is the two oh so glorious, but then, unfortunately, not at all so gloriously staged and played "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Blowin 'in the Wind", which at the very end of the concert - well aware of the inevitable "evil "(as an encore) - more played down than were presented ...
But nevertheless is BEFORE THE FLOOD a thoroughly compelling, exciting and over and over again like to listening live masterpiece that effortlessly can also measure with new live recordings and - I believe - must be anno 1974 ever been groundbreaking , The sound is really refreshing and authentic. Here nothing seems contrived or made good. Really solid work.
BEFORE THE FLOOD is probably the best live album, I stand in my CD shelf (and as yet include James Brown's "Live at the Apollo" and similar caliber home).
By the way: If you have this disc (s), it pays my opinion of not really to add itself "The Last Waltz" from THE BAND (which I also own), unless you want to of course necessarily the guest musicians on " The Last Waltz "(eg Young, Muddy Waters and so on.) Listen to ...
I think on Before the Flood are sometimes the best to date to hear live recordings of THE BAND!
So fans of BOB DYLAN you will also safely access as fans of THE BAND! Friends of good music will also be disappointed not to acquire these two gold "pieces of silver" !!
