This budget CD could have been rather nice, if the right versions had been used.
Unfortunately Sony Music fails once again to compile a Boney M. compilation. And yet again They used a photo of Boney M. Hanes cover That has been used nearly a hundred times. How hard can it be to find photos of Boney M. That hasnt been used for a CD before? That should not be very difficult.
It's as if Seems Sony Music has been aiming for a chronological order, but yet They fail.
This time Sony has been fond of using the re-master editions of the original albums to compile this "Best Of" collection. Luckily enough That gives us the original single version of "Mary's Boy Child / Oh My Lord" (bonus track on the remastered edition of "Night Flight To Venus"). Usually That tracks is included as to edit on compilations.
However the use of LP-versions makes this "Best Of ..." a bit strange at some places.
The opener "Baby Do You Wanna Bump" is the LP version from 1976 is running 6:53. The 3:42 single version from 1975 would have been preferred.
"Daddy Cool" is NOT the original single version / original LP version. It's a 1992 REMIX from the "Gold" compilation. HOW did that end up here?
"Rasputin" is the LP version 5:52. They Should Have Used the original single version from 1978 that's running 4:43 instead. Sony Music Seems Not To Have Been Aware Of That the LP version of "Rasputin" is a part of a medley with "Nightflight To Venus". That Means That the included version of "Rasputin" on this compilation starts abruptly!
"El Lute" is the album version running 5:50. The original single version from 1979 running 5:09 would havebeen preferred.
"Gotta Go Home" is the album version 3:45. Single version from 1979 would havebeen Preferred 4:01.
"Bahama Mama" "is the album version 3:16. The original single version from 1979 running 3:36 would havebeen preferred.
"I See A Boat On The River" is a 1993 remix from "More Gold".
"Kalimba De Luna" is a 12 "version (maxi) running 7:18. The original single version from 1984 running 4:31 would havebeen the right version to use. A 12" version does not fit this compilation.
"Barbara Streisand vs. Marilyn Monroe (Club Mix)" should have been left out. Not an original track. Always stick to the original material from 1975 to 1986.
