Guitar riffs and drums have improved a lot in my opinion. It seems new, no monotone "Draufgeschlage" and not a monotonous guitar playing.
The lyrics are disappointingly very general, repeating the often-chewed topic of lies, love and pain. Act The individual lines thrown together and to abstract concept lets a while to be able to space the story to tell behind the songs themselves, make the written text but slightly banal and unimaginative. The so well-told story with meaning as its predecessor "The Open Door" are hard to find.
For some, the texts may be appealing, but for me are hardly worth mentioning. This has been seen by Amy Lee've been better.
Perhaps this rather less successful Lyrics are due to the approach of the songwriter. In recent interviews, she explained that only the melody and then the texts are added. So the songs heard most of it. Good melody with synth-rock influence, but frequently recurring words and little compelling lyrics.
Like its predecessor (The Open Door), the weakest song was first released as a single again. He is generally well managed, has a lot of variety, good guitar riffs and drum pads, but this ongoing "Do what you what you want" and "Hello Hello remember me?" are annoying after just a few passes. Sounds as if once again no meaningful text was ready and because it's so beautiful, some words are repeated in sequence so that it fits the melody. The one already knows from songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Hello" by Christina Aguilera. Weak content makes a song quickly became the catchy (in the negative sense) and for me one of the worst on the album.
A song has fascinated me most and at the same time surprised. As already mentioned above the song "Swimming Home" strong support of Amy's has harp, so he has a very atypical for Evanescence sound and is therefore unique. The song is strongly reminiscent of Björk, but on a watered-down manner.
I would recommend this album empfelen therefore with a clear conscience, and can only advise everyone to get involved in something new and atypical.
