The Ghost of Tom Joad (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Bruce Springsteen moves with "The Ghost of Tom Joad" (as well as with "Nebraska") in the tradition of songwriters. It has become a great album. Musically you can hear all very quiet songs. Comparisons with other songwriters like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen or Donovan would be here out of place. It plays and sings Springsteen! He is accompanied by very good musicians, such as the E-Street Band companions, Danny Federici, Patti Scialfa, Gary Tallent and Soosie Tyrell, other good musicians that are not known to me. The music accompanied Springsteen in the truest sense of the word. In this very quiet atmosphere arranged the song by Bruce Springsteen dominated. The voice seems almost fragile and can not be compared with its many huge hits. Wonderful songs like "Youngstown", "The Ghost of Tom Joad" and "The New Timer" are absolutely succeeded. These are also my Anspieltipps. Who but Springsteen may exclusively as the boss of the E-Street Band and the stages of Rocks, which is probably wrong here.
I own the album since its release in 1995. The title of the CD is based on John Steinbeck's novel "Grapes of Wrath". Among the many CD's, DVD's and LP's, which had now gathered in my music collection has "The Ghost of Tom Joad" occupied a very special place. I recommend to anyone who likes to listen to singer / songwriter music, recommend this album highly enough.
