Bucolic bedside book

Writers hikers (Paperback)

Customer Review

It is not so common nowadays to come across a bedside book that does not have the austerity of the dictionary or the anthology. Antoine de Baecque, former editorial head (as they say in the newsroom) of Cahiers du Cinema and Cultural Liberation pages is certainly not the bird fallen from the nest, still has the merit of having achieved this beautiful prowess. Unconditional travel writers - which alludes the title - this block of 965 pages is for you. We thus find it unsurprisingly caustic humor of Albert Londres (extract the must The Wandering Jew arrived), the refinement of Nicolas Bouvier (maintenance more invigorating), the savagery of Henry David Thoreau (l inspirer of the popular Into the Wild), but also the weight of Proust (From Swann's Way), the correctness of Jospeh Conrad (memories of 1908), the hardiness of Jean Giono (a passage of the highways) and many others again. Small problem on this compilation, it is not so much evoke walking as such as to praise wildlife (to quote Thoreau), and that rate, it is surprising not to find our way Mark Twain or Jack London, for example. The hiker word seems often usurped: cutting and consolidation chapters yet to similar content appears a priori as artificial feeling that will eventually be qualified at the end of reading the full text of this sum nobles. But do not spoil our pleasure to be in range of pillow, and for some years, a work of such brilliant writers whose every text is sufficient in itself. This editorial consistency is debatable but not outrageous and this is a beautiful thing indeed a gift that will delight the rustic minds.
