Cable works - but jammed the plug

The cable itself is functioning properly. I use it on my HTC Desire. One shortcoming is the cable, however: the two small pins on the micro-USB connector stand up out quite far and are not very flexible. This leads to the following problem:

If I want to plug the cable into my phone, I have to press quite strongly, to get it into the socket. Now if I want to remove the plug, I need a similar amount of force because the two protruding pins, hold the plug like a barb in the socket. Whether that is so good in the long run for my phone, I doubt it. I'll try that with a pair of pliers to bend two pins down a bit.
