The installation went relatively smoothly. The included software is the connected via LAN cable camera, the web interface is started. The picture is as expected, it can be moved, work. So far so good ...
The first problem I had, however, with the device via WLAN. Encryption my FritzBox WPA2 / WPA was probably not recognized by setting the camera to "WPA2". Ok, switched to WPA, then it went. Whether it was now at the Fritz box or the camera, I can not say, but I have not had any of my other WLAN equipment problems with the Fritz box.
Camera ran WLAN then a few days and I asked repeatedly aborts the connection firmly. In between, could not get the picture and it took about 10 seconds, until I got a liquid image. Given the distance between the camera and my wireless access point of about 2 meters, but I would not expect such problems. Without further ado, a cable unpacked, connected, then just a cable ...
The web interface of the camera can make a the most important settings. However, it also makes the impression of a web application of the late 90s and not the present time. The design is completely out of date and it is a bit too difficult to handle, but okay .... not great, not good, just okay ...
The picture is really great. Small weaknesses but there is in the point of view of dark in bright ... Someone who is facing a tageslichthellem window, you can hardly recognize. The person or the object is further in space and is not extremely large, the contrast between dark and light, so you have a clear and really very good picture.
Also the night-infrared image has totally inspired me. I've never worked with IR and would not have thought it possible that you can still see so much in a pitch-dark room. Excellent!
If you just want to watch the image of the camera from time to time it movies, then you are now ready. Also an iOS app is available, with which you can look at the picture. This is just like the web interface a bit of renovation.
Really fun camera but only with additional software. In my case I look at the image of the camera on the "Surveillance Station" my Synology NAS. The camera is mostly compatible with the NAS software which anmutet much modern and sophisticated. For this purpose there is then also a web interface and iOS apps (I think even Android) that are very good to use. About 3G and LTE the image on the phone is really to look good and beautiful.
However, a few real weaknesses of the camera I do not want to mention:
- If you move the camera over the INSTAR- or any other software, you can hear the engine in the transferred image. Not really bad, but a bit disturbing.
- Switching between day and night mode (that is, between normal and black / white / infrared image) is either "manual" or "automatic" carry. If you compare the camera to "automatically", so there are back about half an hour to an hour a day, in the daylight, "probably just so" is light that the camera between Day and Night Mode repeatedly and forth. This switch makes for a while looking at the video image felt, on the other hand it is also accompanied by the camera by a "click". If the camera like mine right next to the bed, so the click can be heard clearly, and has led me in the early days, I thought the camera or the motor control would be "crashed" and I started it again. Only after a few days I noticed that clicking with the switching between day and night mode, or with the switching on and off the infrared LEDs is related.
- The camera has two LEDs that indicate the operational status: a red power LED that is constantly switched on and a blue flashing LED ... Ergo: the camera "hidden" set up in the room is only possible if you pasted the LEDs , Can off you do not.
Conclusion:
A camera with a really good picture. Not recommended WLAN, LAN are more likely. Clicking at dusk is annoying. The INSTAR software is not really usable. With others, partly paid software, but the camera is fun, so if you want to look at his home on the web or smartphone. However, a truly professional impression does not make the camera.
