Tyler is this task broadly succeeded, he even composed a new subsidiary theme, which is really good (good to hear in Aftermath and especially Battle Adagio) fits and also the character of Rambo. Although I have seen the film only in bits and pieces, but arise from the music with me so pictures. Interestingly, Tyler's theme is not used for the action, but for the quieter and more emotional moments.
Of course, Tyler had to work with Goldsmiths legendary main theme, everything else would have been very funny. And that makes Tyler also very good, the modern touch gives the piece a nice freshness, like Debney with the adaptation of Alan Silvestri main theme to Predator. But the patriotic-inspired brass motif from Goldsmith used Tyler, but not the main themes of Part 2 and 3. But that fits yes to the series, there was always the main topic and from part 2 always a new addition to the topic. So also here.
In addition, Brian Tyler composed usual fare when it comes to action. Solid, impulsive, but not spectacular, especially when he nearly 1 takes over some passages of Eagle Eye and Aliens Vs Predator Requiem to 1.
Otherwise the music is typical of Media Ventures generation. Friends of Rooms & Co are served here well, although they quickly learn that the Rambo theme of Goldsmith has a very different dynamic and always stands out, even if the overall result sounds good. Just the beginning and the end of the CD just by convincing Tylers great variations of the main theme!
At 76 minutes, as always gets a correct fair amount of music, so at Tyler. At the first listening test initially I was disappointed, the score needed a second attempt to show its strengths, I think. Nevertheless, they quickly learn where Tyler's problem is: His music takes place often. Goldsmith created at that time still for almost every scene its own sound and fantastic themes variations. Tyler has composed a typical product of its time, though the atmosphere of the jungle he manages well with many drum inserts, but it is a typical Media Ventures score, which offers no surprises.
Conclusion: In spite of the criticism I have to say that I really like the score, he had his own great theme, great variations of the original main theme, good action and a good atmosphere. If Tyler would have been a bit more courageous, he would certainly have put a scoop on it, but my God, who wants to continue the work of Jerry Goldsmith, the hats anyway not easy and in the respect John Rambo is absolutely first class!
