HANDLING
The Firefly softbox I felt personally build simpler because the magnetic mechanism is really succeeded. I also liked the screen Eiger lot better at the Firefly, since it is considerably leaner. In addition, the hot shoe on the Firefly has a locking screw, which I miss when SMDV.
Pack size
Even when packing volume won the Firefly softbox, though not as much as when handling. Although it is larger in terms of area, but not so deep, so the pack size is smaller.
RISK PREVENTION
Here the SMDV scored first. The softbox is stopped by plastic rods, while the Firefly is spanned by metal rods. The material itself is basically the same as me. But tilts the box once to (as it once did my screen including tripod near the sea with wind), take the plastic stick well with less permanent damage. In addition, the box two replacement bars are already in - clearly point gain.
LIGHT
In a softbox of course the most important component. And since the SMDV was significantly forward. The Firefly Box had in my test images every time a dark spot in the center of the light-emitting surface, the plane is also reflected in the catchlights.
The SMDV illuminates very uniform, which probably is also the second, firmly sewn diffuser screen.
CONCLUSION
The Firefly Box has pleased me very well, and also the metal rod I had ignored. The results in terms of illumination talking but clearly for SMDV softbox, which is why I like to keep it.
A star deduction is available for serving somewhat complicated construction and dismantling mechanism, as well as the, in my opinion, unwieldy Neiger.
