1975: The Duets (Audio CD)

Customer Review

In 1949, Dave Brubeck his own quartet, to the 1951-1967 and Paul Desmond belonged. His alto saxophone game was based on little Charlie Parker, the great alto saxophonist that time - he had a clear, lightweight, flowing sound that many tried to imitate in vain. Desmond loved gentle and deeply soulful ballads. The interaction of its light, airy style and Brubeck's heavy, polytonales piano contributed greatly to the success of the classic Dave Brubeck Quartet.

But also as a duo, as the June 10 and 16 September 1975 So two days in the studio, rehearsed album "The Duets", which probably is one of the most lyrical albums of jazz history. Whether 'Alice in Wonderland', 'These foolish things' or 'Blue dove', there are quiet Tonminiaturen having unfinished, most ausgedeutige structures. 'Stardust', 'Koto Song', 'Balcony Rock', 'Summer Song' and 'You Go To My Head "are wonderful songs that shine in the hands of the two brilliant musicians to new heights.

Both, Brubeck and Desmond, grab here so confidently into each other, that "The Duets" is an amazingly varied, almost intoxicating album: little by little in all eight songs catchy magics with guaranteed long-term effect. Here, the Jazz may celebrate a great moment of glory. Definitely recommended!
