At least with the following devices I've tested it successfully:
- IPad Air
- Iphone 5s
About the usual Lightning to USB cable, these devices can at each of the 4 "downstream" USB ports are loaded (allegedly even faster than with Apple power adapters. I have not measured it, but it could be true).

Unfortunately it is not possible, the iPad Air on "upstream" USB port (as a "computer" connected) to load. There are but to my knowledge so far no solution. Therefore, I once pulled off no star.
