Why is the large display so important to me? I use the Reader less for e-books, but especially for PDFs. Unlike e-books layout is fixed in this, that the Reader can not just break the line when the edge of the display is achieved. If you want to not constantly horizontal scroll up and down so remains a no choice, as far as zoom out that the whole width of the page is shown at a time. In a Reader with 6 "display is then definitely going to be too small to look pleasant, even if you hold it horizontally.
With the nearly 10 "of the Pocket Books which looks quite different. It is about the size of an A5 page. Lets you display a page A4 upright completely, it is depending on the margin and font still a bit too small, but if you the Reader turns, so keep in landscape mode, you have thus almost the same font size as if you print the page on A4.
Very useful find the option for column view. If the text is divided into several columns on a page, what eg scientific publications often is the case, you can switch the view accordingly. The view zooms then to a column, and when you have arrived at the end of the page, it automatically springs back up to the next column.
For two-column text that works really well, for more than 2 columns, I have not tested it for lack of appropriate texts.
One small catch however, there is this: The device stores while closing apparently only the side and not the exact position on the page. If you were around at the bottom of the second column, closes the file and opens it again, so you end up back at the top of this page (ie, first column, top). Given the extremely useful function but otherwise this is but a manageable flaw.
Remarkably, I found also that the reader himself in the university had no problem to get into WiFi, although there needs a special security certificate that you have to download, for example, on laptops only and configure accordingly. When PocketBook this certificate is known to have already installed :)
But now I will also address some negative points:
The reader is really slow. When reading interferes with the normal at all, but fast backwards and forwards is rather difficult. The start takes about 30 seconds. This is at least a little offset by the option while Start display the last page. When one thinks of when turning so to browse previously on a new page, so you can already read on and get basically nothing about it with during the startup process. This only works if you really want to read the book recently opened.
The opening of new files will take some quite long, even to the dictionary it is necessary to partially wait very long. When my dictionary but noticed that the charging time is highly dependent on the currently opened file. For large PDFs with many making it lasts the longest, with smaller PDFs without images, it is much faster and in a "real" e-book, it has almost immediately (~ 2 sec) opened. I interpret the times so that the charging time is here less to the processor as the scarce memory.
The situation is similar with the memo. While I was able to highlight in an e-book Easy Text parts, the attempt has always performed at a PDF to the fact that the reader has hanged himself. The function is therefore accordingly unusable for me. What even with PDFs is possible, however, is the insertion of freehand painted strokes. So you can discover interesting places ie at least mark in the margin.
The view of Scripture is sometimes a bit pixelated depending on the font. That bothers me a bit, but is also not dramatic (it's not really bad, precisely so that it stands out).
With some PDFs I also had small display problems because non-embedded fonts were used, which were replaced and thus not present on the Reader by others. However, it is possible to install additional fonts on the device, this problem should be able to resolve as presumably (even if I was unsuccessful in a first, brief attempt).
The occasional crashes, one of which has already been reported here, I can confirm. Before all of the browser does not seem to be so really stable, which he by his name but already expressed at the start ("Experimental Web Browser").
When connected to a PC, I also sometimes a problem that the reader does not recognize the same. I have then a few times off and plug it back in and then it does.
That the current firmware version is now already a good year old, also not misled into believing that you are working on the problems yet. However, I have to bring to the occasion once a support queries, where appropriate, the update here then.
A note because not emerged here for me from the description: The touch screen works only with the supplied stylus, not with your fingers. I find not too bad, but if you value the touch screen, you should be aware of when buying.
Conclusion:
A clear yes / no recommendation I can not pronounce for this device so far. I myself am still a bit undecided whether I am satisfied or not.
Anyone looking for a reader who is well suited for reading PDFs and has no problem with longer loading times, is fundamentally wrong in this Pocketbook. Especially the columns feature I find very useful. On the other hand you have to be aware that it is a rather slow device is flat. Slightly more computing power and memory would have been not bad. But there is in this size category is by far the cheapest e-ink reader, I've found.
