I must confess, I'm a huge fan of his earlier works; Eastern wind, The Traveller, I've got leather on my shoes, I can name a number. In recent years I became more and more disappointed because I got the feeling, Chris de Burgh has discovered a style for himself, he tried to perfect every nweuen album. Mostly shallow sounds with orchestral backround. This does not have to be bad, but repeats itself in my opinion too often.
I just can not get tired of listening to songs like "Up here in heaven" "Lonely Sky" or the complete "Flying Colours" album. Songs like "Revolution" "The Leader" "Crusader" are milestones. And that's why my expectations are too high.
Now I Lay a the current album that hope only rudimentarily such beads are present and ..... tja. Will sadly disappointed. Of course it is not easy (I can imagine) - to continually develop new ideas. How do you reinvent the wheel? But I would have liked more variety. Otherwise I have always looked forward to certain songs a longplayer. Today was my Favourit, tomorrow ... In "The hands of man" I had not a-ha experience.
The album is worth listening to, yes - ok. But there is no recognition for me.
The lyrics are partly really great. But where once twists an electric guitar (revolution)? Where drums drums rhythmically striking? Where to listen to a choir in the background? Yes, there was everything already .... but that was exactly what Chris de Burgh has always identified for me.
This album I'm certainly quite often hear but remembered revel other highlights.
