2004 saw Eric Clapton's 16th studio album with songs by Robert Johnson, who died much too early at the age of 27 years from the effects of syphilis. This played only 29 songs. Eric Clapton, who in the past repeatedly grossed pieces of Robert Johnson and the music was greatly influenced among other things by Johnson, published on this album 14 songs from "Mr. Johnson". He is accompanied by outstanding musicians such as: Andy Fairweather-Low (guitar), Doyle Bramhall II (guitar, slide guitar), Billy Preston (Hammond organ), Chris Stainton (piano), Nathan East (bass), Pino Palladino ( bass), Jim Keltner (drums), Steve Gadd (drums), and Jerry Portnoy (harmonica). Through this elaborate instrumentalisation get Robert Johnson's songs a new "face". This may the friends of Robert Johnson might burp. But Clapton is not Robert Johnson. The technical recording capabilities have changed significantly over the decades. Maybe a Robert Johnson would even have enjoyed it to participate in this recording session. In any case already given me the work-up of the song material great pleasure. The music of Clapton and his colleagues is very emotional and my judge it after gripping. The sound is my feeling after very well. My favorite pieces and at the same time are Anspieltipps: "Love In Vain", "Traveling Riverside Blues", "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" and "If I Had Possession Over Judgment Day". Clapton plays Robert Johnson's music different, but absolutely thrilling! Thumbs up and five stars.
