---- Materials and workmanship -----
The Philips stands out primarily by the anthracite-colored, very narrow metal frame. It looks classy and is very high quality. One can look at it and press where you want. Nothing creaks or feels inferior.
The stand is made of metal and is very easy to screw it to the back of the TV's. It is very stylish and fit well into the overall picture of the TV one, since it has the same color as the narrow frame.
Whether on the stand or on the wall, the Philips is an absolute gem.
---- Initial -----
The initial setup is very straightforward to accomplish and for any layman. First, all the necessary cables are connected. With me only HDMI cable for 3-D Blu-ray player and the satellite cable to the connection jack directly to the TV. Power cable in and that was it.
The Home button on the remote control leads to the main menu of the TV's from which you can set up the entire television.
Smart TV can start up only when the TV is connected to the Internet via WLAN or directly via a cable before. I chose the wireless version. A simple menu displays on all the necessary steps. This worked out within a few minutes.
---- Image Quality ----
In general, I must emphasize that the picture quality of course is critically dependent on the selected medium. Which player will be used? Blu-ray or DVD? With HDMI cable there are major differences, etc ....
I judge the quality compared to my previously used LED-LCD TV of a well-known brand.
The image quality of a Blu-Ray blew me away. The colors clear and natural. The picture razor sharp, !!!!! without streaks !!!! with quick movements.
Whether from the front or from the side. One can look at a high-contrast image in any position.
Black is black!
Whether HD or SD material, the Philips impresses in every aspect. Of course, the image perception is different for each. The decisive factors are not only sitting position, angle, distance and position the selected starting material, but also a subjective feeling. My personal claims, the Philips justice.
--- 3-D ---
The Philips takes advantage of the active 3-D technology. In other words, these are built into the 3-D glasses LC displays, which quickly turns his eyes darken. Some people, like me, this notice a flickering, which does not occur with the passive technology.
Also, the glasses of the active technique a little heavier and bulkier, which is to borrow the internal battery or the electronics.
The 3-D effect is extremely active in the art. Furthermore, you can the image as opposed to passive technology, Full HD enjoy. I notice no difference, but some people seem to be able to that.
If 3-D is necessary to distinguish between depth and the so-called pop-outs.
A depth effect is represented by the excellent Philips. Men in Black 3 is a real treat.
Interestingly, the pop-outs. Not all 3D movies have "pop-outs", ie items that come seemingly out of TV. If you want to have something, you have to sit down beforehand about the movies inform. Here at Amazon there to a wide selection.
Or you look at Youtube only times a teaser, and check them out if you this pop-outs can perceive at all. Because not every eye is to enable 3-D with its effects perceive.
I can thankfully and the experience was unique. Man tries to reach for the object, you try to go back or to avoid further. The effect is amazing. Famous for pop-outs are animated films. There are on the market very good reference movies like zBSammys Adventure - The Search for the Secret Passage.
---- ---- Sound Quality
With very thin flat panel displays are also expected a thin sound. But the Philips surprises with a rich and voluminous sound. Of course, so calling a TV for a 5.1 system. But if you just do not have available, reduce the built-in speakers of Philips not the visual and listening pleasure!
---- Smart TV ----
Smart TV comes up with different apps, such as max cathedrals, news channel, facebook, youtube etc. Interesting for me at the moment is alone Youtube. Trailer for the latest movies can be viewed in HD quality. To test the ability of 3D there are beautiful teaser that make really fun and the 3-D capability of the TV to confirm without having to have a 3-D Blu Ray. I think it is worthwhile to check back often for new apps. It is for every taste.
Whether Smart TV runs smoothly and quickly, of course, depends on your Internet connection. In my 16000 line hakelt it before, but in the majority of set material it runs very smoothly.
The menu navigation is fast with me. I do not have to wait until builds something. There was so far no crashes or similar.
---- Remote Control ----
The remote control is relatively large, but lies comfortably in the hand. The buttons have a pleasant pressure point, and to be driven functions are very well chosen (Shortcuts to 3D functions, Ambilight, TV format and the usual options).
On the back there is a small keyboard that simplifies typing in Youtube or setting of the WLAN code.
---- ---- Ambilight
Never again without a TV Ambilight !!!!! This three-sided Ambilight is the hammer! Especially with action scenes with lots of explosions and color changes, it shows its strength. The living room is a cinema.
Even the 40 inch Philips fall because not very significant since the Ambilight the image appear larger!
I regret to say that some Ambilight flashes occurring at 24 Hz. I have disabled this function on my player and could watch no more flashes. A picture change also did not occur. I still hope for an update.
---- Pro and con ----
+ Great picture (clear, sharp, no streaking)
+ Great 3-D effects (depth and pop-out)
+ Straightforward initial setup
+ Very good workmanship
+ Stable TV stand
+ Surprisingly good sound
+ Quick and easy menu navigation
+ Wifi
+ Built-in receiver
- Ambilight flashes at 24 Hz
Conclusion ---- ----
With 40 inches of Philips is not the biggest, but the Ambilight the skin out again! The picture quality is stunning. The styling is very successful and the processing perfectly.
The 3-D representation ensures WOW effects.
But you should inform about the active and passive technology and possibly try this in business. Although the active 3-D looks better than in passive technology, the passive technique is more comfortable for me as I perceive there no flicker.
For my sister it is exactly the opposite. It has problems with the passive technique, and preferably the active.
Anyway. This TV is for me a high-end product!
