Customer Review

I have the LG 47LM660s me in December as a replacement for my 16: 9 CRT risen and now wants to also make known my opinion about this device.

The first impression:
The design is sublime in my opinion beyond doubt. The narrow edge causing the unit very elegant and little appear "clunky". The plasma TV my father with approximately the same screen size (48 ") acting through its approximately 5cm wide black border all around considerably huge, although the image is not noticeably bigger. A clear advantage for the LG, if one considers it important that the Device perfect harmony in the environment for some perhaps even more of a downside because my first comment out of the box was. "But he is really much smaller than I thought!"

The visible image does not go the way all the way up to the edge, but leaves all around about one centimeter "air", but this absolutely does not interfere in practice.

In retrospect, I could well imagine the size technically 55er in my living room; the few inches more screen size but then not worth it to me, however, was almost double in December purchase price (EUR 850, - - for 47 "to 55 vs. EUR 1400").

Sound:
The sound is surprisingly mature for a device with this really narrow design. Who was satisfied with the television sound of his pure tube TVs, is also here nothing to complain about.

Picture:
The picture I just can only be described as outstanding. Razor sharp, very vivid and contrasting. Only the picture settings are more than moderately. In standard mode that comes along extremely bright and over-sharpened, affects each television format, as it had been cheaply recorded with a digital camera. Here you should definitely make improvements manually, which thanks to two independently be stored image profile called Expert1 and Expert2 also can be implemented well. Good assistance to the settings can be found in abundance on the Internet, although of course other people's image profiles do not always meet your own taste. In a pinch you can for now safely rely on the "Cinema Mode", which offers a much more natural and warmer color representation and less over-sharpening.

Said image profiles can be all TV inputs and transmitter types (HD, SD, analog) assign individually, which allows really the most out of the respective source material tease out.

Oh yes, here is repeatedly read from the fact that the screen is highly reflective. All I can say from my experience: Of course, the screen is not matte. Mirroring but really has its limits. During the day with full light, it may already be problematic, but the evening is even with hardly any lighting mirrors noticeable. The best thing perhaps meets the comparison with the good old tube: The LM660s definitely reflects no worse than a tube TV. Due to its flat and not curved shape rather slightly less. I have in any case - even during the day - never felt the need to try to draw the curtains. And, although I both behind the TV (Southwest) and in about 8 feet in front of the TV (northeast) each have large windows. Ok, unless you watching movies, playing mostly at night in dimly lit places. But it can also create a second image profile that provides more brightness and a stronger backlight.

Also on the subject of "Flash Light" and the like, I can not say much. On my machine everything fits. Even if the input has no signal, so a black image is displayed, there is a maximum of slightly washed out, but that significant incidence of light (just Flashlights) would not make out in the corners. Even black is (almost) black (in nature there is no way, 100% black, but only grays), motion streaks are not yet noticed me and otherwise I can not say anything negative about the image with the best intentions. The settings in expert mode are so extensive that most everyone can fudge the best for Image.

The LG incidentally also dominates the native Blu-ray 1080p resolution in 24Hz, but also supports 50Hz, 60Hz and 70Hz, and all popular "smaller" resolutions.

TV mode:
TV works fine (it should be better, too), but the LG has a special feature that is likely to disturb especially people who still received next to the digital channels and analog signals (eg the cable digital connection without HD-package): Digital and analog channels can not be mixed in the channel list. This means in practice that when zapping first all digital channels are displayed, then the radio programs and the last analogue transmitter - no matter what channel number to place each. As you navigate through the number buttons on the remote, however, can for example be quite ARD Digital on 1, ZDF Digital on two and Sat1 place analogous to 3 and so retrieve. Only popped but would after the ZDF suddenly another digital channels, even if this would be provided with the program number 13. In my case, I initially asked all radio stations "Skip" on and will probably leave me soon my cable Germany SUBSCRIPTION drill, so that I can receive all digital private channels. Costs only 2,50 Euro per month in addition. However, in DVB-T or satellite receiver to this problem is unlikely to show that here anyway all TV channels are transmitted digitally.

The switching between programs are incidentally completely under. A channel change takes about 1 second, which is not really affected the fun of zapping. Since my old tube TV was not faster.

Record TV program to USB HDD:
TV shows can be record on a USB-connected hard disk. Here, however, the hard drive must be formatted first single from the TV. Recorded broadcasts can be followed, however, solely on the LG play, but not all about the computer.

Since the LG660s is not equipped with a TV tuner, you can unfortunately not record a program while another look, but can only record the respective currently looking to broadcast. So this feature is more of a measure against the Missing program while you are not at home. After all, the recordings can also be programmed via timer.

The media player:
The LM 660S comes with an integrated media player that can be fed through a Media Server either via USB-connected hard disk or via LAN connection. However, this media player has some limitations: The LG does not recognize hard drives that are larger than 1 TB are (according to statement of LG Hotline.). My 3TB USB HDD was certainly not to move to co-operate with the TV. For eats the LG both FAT and NTFS formatted hard drives.

So in my case I had the hard drive on a Fritz! Box, connect the Fritz! Box acts as a DLNA Media Server. That went surprisingly smoothly: hard drive to the Fritz! Box plug it, enable the Media Server on the box, connect TV via LAN cable - it all worked smoothly!. Even the Media Server from Windows 7 recognizes the LG without quirks.

Another limitation to the Media Player on bringing the already mentioned above image setting to days: Here you can not assign own picture profile, but merely supplied the factory. I am running the Media Player is therefore at the "Cinema mode" (which can then, however, still can adjust something, although not nearly as extensive as the own image profiles). What also annoys: It can be selected for separate soundtracks. If a movie so a German and English audio track, only the first track (in this case German) is always played. If the first track, the English, it is not possible to view the film in German. Somewhere I read that the well was still working with an earlier firmware version.

One last quite annoying limitation is that the media directories (such as Windows) shown as tiles without exception, which means that due to the small width of the individual tiles hardly a complete film title is legible. Although the title will scroll past in about one second under the tile, which is annoying but anyway. A list view I would find much more practical here.

For the LG Media Player eats almost all popular formats: Whether avi, mpeg, mkv, mp4, flv (the standard format for all the videos, which can be downloaded from the public libraries) or MP3, WAV and even DTS Wavs in audio - I have had no file format that would have the LG is not reproduced without complaint.

Smart TV functions:
Which brings me to another point: The Smart TV functions are more of a gimmick than a really useful TV extension. The LG can not play Flash content on websites (again the media libraries of the public service broadcasters). The other categories look at how 3D movies are rather nice accessories, since there is very little choice here. However, to test the (really impressive) 3D capabilities of the TVs they are good anyway.

What fun addition spoils, here are the really lame response times. Open the Apps menu takes an estimated 5 seconds Minimum. Even navigating the various smart TV category lasts forever, even though my TV hanging on a fast gigabit LAN cable. So does it really not fun. Overall, the Smart TV features in my opinion are no longer meant to be nice. As a selling point, I can not look at it in any case absolutely.

Much faster and more practical, however, works HbbTV.

3D:
By lightweight passive glasses (with my LG 5 piece together with glasses clip were there - although in some unspeakable colors) makes 3D look really fun. The depth of the effects can be here to personal taste to adjust, so that by "to hardly notice" about "amazing!" to "Warning: eye cancer!" really everything is. Important to know: Even the 3D function has to be assigned manually once an image profile. The first time I was really from the "cheap" digicam quality of 3D display abgetörnt until I had finally figured out.

The 2D to 3D conversion makes perfect mood. There indeed marvel no classic pop-out effects, but the image gains belonging to depth, which raises the strong in a different light to the one or the other well-known 2D film. However, the quality of the effect is highly dependent on the source material. Some films are simply rotated so that hardly anything 3D excessive is to tease out, in other marvels you and thinks almost, one might have to do with real 3D (missing from the pop-out effects aside).

Incidentally flickers nothing, even due to technical reasons halving line frequency range with passive 3D. All clear.

Documentation / Support:
Again, there is nothing good news to report: The manual is a joke. Even the included PDF file (printed, there is only a small "flap", whose information content tends to zero) provides virtually no responses to emerging issues, if possible. The LG website saves also in terms of information content, and the hotline is indeed easy to reach and friendly, however, hopelessly overwhelmed at just about every question that I asked the gentlemen there.

Conclusion:
The LG 660S is definitely worth the money. You get a really send TV with excellent image and good sound, many possibilities and just a great price / performance ratio. However, one should not be afraid before to create especially with the image settings even hand in order to exploit its potential even close. The media player does what he should - if you previously about his limitations (hard disk size, not a specific file Profile assignable, Tile representation) knows and can live with this. 3D is great fun and even 2D to 3D know in most cases, to convince. Smart TV, however, is up to HbbTV a nice addition without real value - and you should, if necessary, expand its cable Germany SUBSCRIPTION if you want to have full comfort at the station sorting.

What in this context quite comforting: Other manufacturers get most of these problems can not better grip. As I found out by now, there are probably only very very few current TVs that can mix digital and analog programs for example in the channel sorting.

I give the LG LM660s therefore 4.5 out of 5 stars.
