First, it should be noted that the design of the "Classic controller" on a mix between Super Nintendo - recalls and Playstation controller - to the former recalls the small size and the "bulbous" Ergonomics, at zweiteren the 2 equal Control Sticks under the directional pad and the buttons at the bottom left and right.
Since the N64 / Playstation 1 console generation where the 3D graphics splendor the control sticks have taken catchment, it was always in the development of it, a good compromise between between directional pad (rather for 2D games) and Control Stick ( more likely to find for 3D games).
The Nintendo 64 controller rendered this compromise probably best because you could keep it for both types of control in different ways - on the other hand, however, he was quite big and had a bulky design.
With the Gamecube controller should change the - 3D games had prevailed, so that the Control Stick clearly - was brought to the fore - at the expense of the multi-selector. He was both larger and better positioned than the Control Stick of the N64 controller - the D-pad on the other hand, the exact contrary, had left behind.
The presented "Classic Controller" is, however, more of a compromise in favor of the multi-selector. While the D-pad, like with the Super Nintendo, is placed a good size and perfectly, some players are likely to have problems with the handling of the control sticks because you "stretch" thumbs relatively far need to be able to operate it properly. Also, the control stick is somewhat smaller and somewhat less accurate than that of the Gamecube controller (the same as in the "Nunchuck").
Thus, one can say in general that the "classic controller" is better suited for:
- 2D - Games on the "Virtual Console", especially "Super Nintendo" games run fantastic as the key assignment of the SNES very similar.
- Wii Ware - remakes of old games such as "Megaman 9", "Tetris Party" or "Dr.Mario & Germ Buster"
The Gamecube controller, however, is better suited for:
- The majority of the current Wii games (such as "Mario Kart Wii" and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl"), since the majority of these games are designed for the Control Stick and there the "Gamecube Controller" is stronger. However, of course, is to pay attention that this is also supported on the game.
- "Gamecube" games, as they can be with the "classic controller" do not play (Caution, not a value judgment - it is not possible technically!).
Finally, I would draw your attention to a point of criticism, which has come to me a little too short in many other reviews ;-) - much too short cable. One might think that this was not a nuisance because of the "classic controller" is indeed connected to the wireless "Wiimote" - but it is unfortunately still a since you this simply can not lay on the floor, if you want reasonable play with it: Otherwise you ever have the feeling that "pull" "Wiimote" while keeping the Classic Controller, because the cable is not even enough just for older players to arm height. Opportunities to extend the lead, there are due to the connection to the Wiimote not know what can be very annoying.
If, for example, from a chair (and not of a sofa, for example) from playing, it could be that they still need another chair or something on a similar level to where to store the "Wiimote". This is also the 1 star deduction.
Overall, however, is also the "classic controller" (how far each Nintendo Controller) is an extremely well-processed controller with no real weaknesses, I can recommend especially for playing older games. As a friend I find pleasant retro move by Nintendo to have again brought out a controller in the "Classic style" :).
