Böhm never solicits the text, lets proceed very smoothly, in a context of extreme rigor. The fairly moderate tempos are dictated by the desire to hear every detail in its proper place, the movement is still very natural. Each sentence has a rare highlight. We remain appreciative of the remarkable work of the attacks, very sharp, sharpness bowing that never weigh and balance the absolute sound plans.
Contrary to the usual image (and false) Böhm, nothing "cushy" in there. It will even be surprised by the vehemence of "Pastorale" almost violent in places.
The Beethoven Böhm is a Titan but also a classic, fed Enlightenment thought. Speech clarity, color brightness (sublime orchestra) this Beethoven then rejects any post-Romantic tradition; is the anti-Karajan in many respects.
The Vienna Philharmonic is in superlative form and the taking of its particularly excellent, very natural and very present (the best of the 70s).
At that price, no hesitation !!
