Unfortunately, the sales staff in the electronics markets and even the support of the manufacturer really does not deal with these devices. So I had everything works laboriously itself.
The requirement profile was a trouble-free picture frames, which can also display the date and time in the slide show and it also noted when it is disconnected from the mains. This indicator is intended to enable an older person the easy orientation on day, date and time. A slideshow of personal photos of the picture frame to draw attention to himself. This allows the Hama Picture Frame. Brand products Cytem have to remember not got a back-up battery to be date / time and display options (eg. As display of the calendar). Further goodies has the Hama Picture Frame a timer (see below), a brightness sensor (see image quality) and a night mode (display a clock in the dark). The image quality should be useful. Here the IPS panels from Cytem are certainly better, but cost significantly more. No criterion was video playback and built-in memory. Both have not this Hama Picture Frame. SDHC cards lower speed classes, which are sufficient for this picture frame, cost only a few euros more and who can the photos previously scaled to fit the screen size to accommodate approximately 8,000 photos to 1GB.
The power consumption is in my opinion with specified 4W / h exemplary low. In an operating time of 14 hours a day, electricity costs about 4 Euro dürten are annual. The price of equipment GNTB. 45 Euro (11/2014) is fine if you consider that the device processor, memory, graphics processor, display driver, screen, card reader, control buttons and power supply unit must have. The pricing ceiling for digital picture frames are in my opinion the price of tablets with similar usable display and accessories in order to place the tablet can. But whether there is for tablets Software for slideshow with time / calendar display I have not checked. Nor whether it is possible for tablets they switched timed on and off and to start with a specific program. Against this background, and in particular in point ease therefore these devices still have their raison d'être.
Random Repeat: This is really a sad chapter of this photo frame and brings along with the deterioration written down to three stars, too bad. The Shuffle is only created once and maintained thereafter. That is, it is always the same ("random") unwound sequence. Since you can also temporarily turn off, disconnect the unit from the mains off the SDHC card and plug it in again: The device remains in the once generated random sequence and repeats this again and again. In addition, some images are already often repeated before all others were shown at least once.
Dear people of Hama, please notify the programmers of your software, that this is not understood as "Shuffle".
Shuffle may be my attempt to change only in that one stores new photos on the memory card. However, the first photo shown is always the same. Temporarily they can also be change, that the mode is on 'order', runs the slide show and then back to 'Random' resets (During the slide show, the 'Play' button in the middle, then the 'Go down Select 'button and then the back' press play 'button' Mode 'and set the' Play 'button on' Sequence number 'or' Random 'and wait for the slide moves by itself on.). Hoped to have outwitted the machine so you will but was astonished to find that the device after interim off again the same Shuffle shows - Sigh!
Screen brightness / brightness sensor: The screen brightness is restricted by the low viewing angles (see below) very well. The brightness sensor is very sensitive. Switching to night mode (Uhrdarstellung) occurs only when really low brightness (sparse artificial lighting at night), but then within a few seconds.
Screen resolution: Very good. The pixels are no longer be seen from about 50 cm (anyway only with writing and numbers).
Contrast: Very good, limited by the low viewing angle stability
Image Quality: At the start (cold start) clear moire in the form of vertical stripes. After warming up the presentation is impeccable.
Viewing angles: Generally good. From above bright + contrast lower, darker bottom + contrast higher, light from left equal to + contrast higher, lower right of equal brightness + contrast, colors are apparent from all directions. Only very bright parts of the image hit when viewed from above in color spots around. Conclusion: do not show up on a shelf, so that has to be seen from below it (wall mounting not possible anyway). The best location is on a desk at which you sit. Then, the image quality is excellent. However, when sunlight only frontal view is possible due to the spieglenden displays in lateral insights then the display remains dark.
Color Space: Good, but tested only with sRGB images if Adobe RGB is displayed correctly is not known to me. The color temperature (white point) is suitable for all types of ambient light (daylight, tungsten). The photos I feel that no color cast or other color distortions. Even bold colors come to realistic representation.
Calendar display (slideshow): Well, the day of the week should be the better identification written in full (only format DD.). The typeface has too little space between letters and numerals (lowercase weekdays stick to the leading capitals, the leading ones of the date stick to the right neighbor digits: 10, 11, 15, 16) so that the readability is difficult (eg. 15 and 16 differ little). Letters and numbers could be somewhat larger (in separate calendar mode they are big enough. However, this must be newly selected manually each time the device.). The three-line display of the calendar with two adjacent weeks getting used to (However, by the image display is less disturbed, because the calendar has a lower height than the occupying separate calendar mode, where it is shown fünfzeililg). The time is too big for my taste (and therefore a bit disturbing).
Timer: Very convenient, multiple timers would still be practical (several times a day on and off automatically). The products offer Cytem timer for three different start and stop times.
Menu: For the experienced user of PC, mobile phones, cameras and other electronic devices without any problems, very clearly and unambiguously, (almost) flawless German translation.
Design: Nice flat screen and discreet base, BUT: Why must stand out the SDHC card to the back half and this (although only slightly but still) bent? Certainly the angle plug of the power cable need just more space to the rear, but an elegant solution looks different. In addition, one would have the socket for angled plugs can attach the base and sides.
Battery Backup: The big advantage! The appliance remembers all settings including the date and time, once it has been disconnected from the mains. It starts automatically (just by inserting the plug and without pressing any button) with the slide show of photos on the SDHC card and also hides the calendar again automatically when it has been entered in the settings so. Conclusion: very good for use by elderly people who have no idea technically and where a caregiver has the unit temporarily disconnected for cleaning or when the unit is accidentally unplugged or when the power has failed etc.
Product information / support of Hama: Not particularly well qualified, misses the point, and the unit has been worse than it actually is.
My recommendation to buy for all who wish to accept the stubborn Shuffle, as you the order anyway can not remember except for the first ten to twenty images.
