Since I like to order through Warehouse Deals, I let myself be sent from there a device. Almost an entire weekend I spent with bringing the unit up and running anyway, but although the unit reported a flash and showed up well in the device manager, nothing could be done. All sorts of recommendations, including those emerging from X-Rite in the FAQ, I have tried, only from a clean (thankfully) refrained. But it did not work on my old XP laptop and not on the computer my wife. So sent back as defective and ordered another device at Warehousdeals. This was much cheaper, also indicated only good with about 150. The more surprised I was that me a machine has been packed, which fits more like new in the category. It was all in better shape than my first, expensive copy. Strange, but to me it should be legal.
This equipment then both the SpectraView Profiler and of DispcalGUI / Argyll was immediately recognized and works perfectly. The right software for equipment of X-Rite, the I1-Profiler, I have again installed shortly for testing, I do not need, however, even if it does not leave a bad impression. However, The background Device Manager software is an absolute total software Fehlkonstruktion and provides only for trouble. So my review is also more on the hardware.
Now to the short comparison ColorMunki Display / i1Display Pro. Both devices deliver almost 100% identical results in DispcalGUI / Argyll, the deviations for example. In the brightness or contrast white point measurement are so low that you can neglect these. The measurement results for the profiling also look absolutely identical. That surprised me even more than that I never expected this even two identical i1 Display Pro devices. In total the units are at least in the white point measurement more accurate than the old DTP 94. At my workplace standard lamp with 5500K I could measure it this, because the DTP was 94 to 150k next, the other two to 30K and 40K.
The i1 screen measures more quickly, but which is likely to play a minor role for the private user. In the hardware, the devices actually seem indistinguishable. Unfortunately, the ColorMunki Display is not supported by the majority of third-party software, the display Pro, however practically always. Who sets particular software to calibrate your monitor and the hardware side can, unfortunately, have no alternative but to use the i1 Display Pro, for there running with the ColorMunki Display nothing. What you can do with a simple driver ... So everything happens the business.
Who uses however the very good DispcalGUI / Argyll eg., Can and should pick up the ColorMunki Display. The results are very good. Then you have a small little incorporated into the matter, but then gets a very good system to calibrate its monitor and profile.
