I have the monitor since 3/17/15 and would like to describe my first experiences. Those looking for a professional review, I recommend the TFTCentral Review from XB270HU, here I will deal with my personal impressions only.
1. Image quality / resolution
I only have two Dell IPS monitors U2414h (~ 200), with which I can compare the image quality at IPS level. As a gaming monitor I had previously the TN BenQ Xl2411t.
The difference zwischem the BenQ and Acer in the color rendering are of course at worlds. Between the Dells in pre-calibrated sRGB mode and XB270HU in the recommended TFTCentral settings (eColor mode users, brightness 24 (in my case 60), contrast 50, gamma 2.2, color temperature users with 50, 45, 46) is not a huge difference, but I recognize the Acer to better color reproduction, especially the whites seem rendered much more realistic and natural to me.
This is my first desktop monitor the 1440p has and I think the 27-inch in combination with this resolution for Windows 8 (.1) for perfect. Personally, I have to scale anything that fonts are crisp, the icons are not too small, really everything great. Unfortunately, the resolution means that I now happen my 1080p border monitors relatively pixelated and I this now will soon upgrade to 1440p "must".
2. Play with G-Sync and 144hz or ULMB (max 100Hz)
For ~ 750 can be in an IPS panel offers a good color rendering, everything else would be disappointing. The special thing about this Ahva (IPS) M270DAN02.3 Panel AUO is that it finally combines first IPS with 144hz.
As background, you should know that I am very sensitive to the playback. That's why I've been using Strobelight (or Light Boost) played particularly Shooter with my old BenQ Xl2411t (144hz) to 10% in order to reduce as much input lag etc.
For example, in games like Trackmania 2 Valley I had often achieved not constant 144fps, so once the frames are dropped instead, once again (no no V-Sync), there has been very little stuttering briefly what I really displeased. This I did with G-Sync no longer now.
But even to this aspect I have to say also that I could see no appreciable difference between 120-144fps and 120-144fps @ G-Sync.
That's why I now come to the next point.
Where G-Sync brings benefits? I have for this time The crew lined up to me, which has a 60 FPS lock. Here I see very significant differences when I G-Sync and anschalte. So I think G-Sync particularly in the lower FPS area next Trackmania and The Crew I then even Battlefield Hardline alluded to two monitors (premature activation via VPN). In this game, I have not even managed to 1080p 144fps constant, therefore revealed but a significant difference, it does just liquid, the mouse feels more direct input etc.
ULMB I angetestet short in these 3 games, but I felt it in every game as unnecessary, G-Sync seemed to me better. This is surprising to me, because I have a clear preference on my BenQ Light Boost.
I tested the way in overdrive "Normal" mode, according TFTCentral the other two modes are not recommended.
3. defects and other negative points (not all my opinion / experience reflected)
Unfortunately, as with Swift a certain series dispersion is in this Monitor, available. A few people in HardwareLuxx Forum or even H Forum have received displays with pixel errors. This is in this price range, of course, an absolute no-go.
Also, this monitor has not been spared from the Backlight bleeding, IPS usual IPS Glow I now could not tell up. Characteristic the Backlight bleeding is strongest in the lower right corner at the most. My copy has very slight backlight bleeding in the lower corners, but absolutely not disturbing.
Respect pictures from the Backlight bleeding! Depending on the exposure time etc. it looks in pictures of a lot worse than real.
In the menu I miss personally the opportunity to create different profiles. Because of the good color reproduction but I need that too not really (no separate profile for Gaming / Desktop necessary), I wanted to mention times. Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about at the menu.
Also worth mentioning is that the display is recessed approximately 0.5 cm lower than the frame and is easily reflected by the materials used, inter alia, on the taskbar, 0.5cm lower recess. Bothers me personally not, it comes largely also depends on the seat height or the angle to the screen.
As a final point, which has unfortunately also personally a little disappointed me is the "Glossy Look" mention and the thick frame (1.1 cm) or the design. This makes eg Dell U2414h (0.5cm) or Asus Swift PG278q (~ 0.5cm) significantly better.
After the frame is narrower than with my old BenQ XL2411t.
At the stand, I can not say much because I have this not at first unpacked unfortunately. As you can see on the attached photos, I use a desktop holder.
Incidentally, I would also like to point out that you inevitably binds with this monitor to Nvidia as Nvidia G-Sync is not licensed for AMD. G-Sync is supported only over DisplayPort, so this monitor any HDMI / DVI connections are missing.
4. Warranty Extension
For the price of ~ 750 2-year standard warranty from Acer are advised unfortunately too short. I plan namely this monitor to keep a long time, otherwise I would not put down that kind of money for him. With 4k IPS + 144hz I expect the next 3 years not first.
That's why I have informed me a little bit about the extended warranty from Acer.
One can per unit only activate a warranty extension (searching for "Acer Monitors Warranty Extension" and you will find it, I do not know if I can post the link), ie, 3 year on-site service with a replacement unit and 5-year warranty are not possible simultaneously.
So either you choose three years suburb! Support with exchange of power equal or more powerful device (Support has confirmed to me that that is, in the case of XB270HU that a XB270HU as a substitute you get) + priority support for processing 29,99 or 4/5 normal years warranty extension for 22/34 , 99 with free shipping to the service center + prioritization.
Let's face it, who can afford to monitor the 750, which I guess the 5-year warranty for 35 to buy.
A support staff member told me the way, also on request, that the 3/4/5 years from date of purchase (the question hardly because standing on their website that the warranty extension must be registered within 365 days after purchasing the product) are valid. In addition, one should not order at the last minute (eg if already is something broken) because the documents by mail send etc. often takes 2-5 weeks.
Although it is not so clearly comes out from the enclosed PDF document include those 5 years carry-in (Description: This service provides high-quality support in the Acer
Repair centers and includes free shipping back and forth.) In fact the free repair of damage not inflicted (ie not when you throw down the monitor). An actual stinknormale warranty extension.
5. Conclusion
I have long wondered whether I should give this product 3 or 4 stars. Eventually I came to the conclusion that this monitor really deserves 3.5 / 5 stars, so I had to round up at Amazon. AUO Electronics did an excellent job with your M270DAN02.3 Panel. It is the first panel that successfully good image quality (Swift with 8bit TN panel can this here not nearly hold a candle) and speed combined.
Acer's implementation like in terms of design for me personally not so good, such as the Asus Swift, but at least you have to give them credit that Acer has managed to be the first to bring this panel as a complete package on the market. Warranty extensions are priced very reasonable and give me one more plus.
I look forward already on it when other manufacturers bring monitors M270DAN02.3 panel on the market, then, ultimately, prices fall. For AMD graphics card owner is possibly the Asus MG279Q interesting that supports rather than G-Sync Freesync and uses the same panel. Unfortunately this is not yet available.
Edit 29/03/15:
I have successfully managed to get into the service / Factory menu of Acers. Photos to be appended. Unfortunately, this can not change anything important, for example, there is no way the LED or Boot Animation disable. The only approximately Interesting what you can do, is that you can, "hot" can change the color modes "Normal", "cold", so you can still create three more personal color profiles next to "user". At OD I'm assuming that you can adjust the aggressiveness of overdrive, here I recommend however to retain the default settings.
Unfortunately, I can not reproduce the I open the service menu key combination. You will notice it but the fact that the menu is top left and suddenly an empty "Factory" In addition, what you then have to enter.
