Well, tried from the photo shop of my confidence and 3 cameras. The RX100m2 was the winner of the 3 candidates (Pentax MX-1 and Canon G1X the others were tested).
Now for the positive and negative sides.
Pros:
- Has the video mode a galactic Image Stabilizer
- 60p for FullHD video.
- Fits in you pocket
- Really high-quality housing.
- Has a folding screen
- I have manual controls
- No touch screen and that is a good thing. The camera is so small that I always have the thumb on the screen with my normal hand.
- The screen also pops up when my tripod plate mounted.
- Really useful to ISO 3200 in 6400. In an extreme emergency and it is getting too noisy.
- Initial aperture of f / 1.8
- Built-in flash. Oh yes, the little thing is great. Why? I can see the flash flip up and flash to the ceiling.
- The FN button is very handy and clear. Here I can with my 7 most used functions store so I have quick access.
- And of course RAW.
Contraindications:
- Unfortunately, the lens begins only at 28mm wide angle. 4 mm less would be nice.
- Unfortunately, there is a sort of locking mechanism on the mode dial. Almost every time I pull the camera out of my pocket, I have a different attitude. Very annoying
- Why is there no lapse function? And the PlayMemories app does not exist for RX also.
- Unfortunately, I can not assign a proper function the button?
- When you turn off the camera, the lens does only after some time (estimated 7-8 seconds) on again.
- Unfortunately, no normal outlet charger included
- Unfortunately, only F / 4.9 at the telephoto end.
- No GPS (I would rather than GPS WiFi)
- There is no filter thread.
- Sorry, no bracketing function in combination with the timer.
Neutral:
- WiFi and NFC: NFC I could not try, because I do not have NFC-enabled counterpart. WiFi I have in the 3 weeks vacation just no time used (there was a Timelapse app then would perhaps otherwise). Who needs it? the camera has it. For me rather uninteresting.
- Features like sweep panorama are quite nice but I do not use those functions.
- Lots of Picture Effects. Never tried. Who needs it. The camera has it.
Why the Mark II and not the predecessor model.
- I'm still hoping that Sony eventually a MI-Shoe Adapter with jack adapter brings out for the microphone. I am an optimist, I must say.
- I'm going to buy myself the adapter on the old Minolta flash shoe and then use my external flash. Whether I am going to use the external flash often be seen.
- The folding screen is always beneficial.
- The sensor should be better than the Mark 1. Therefore, the Mark. 2
Conclusion.
I had in the 3 weeks vacation, the RX100 and the A77 in use. Approximately one third of the recordings I did with the RX. On previous trip I had in certain situations no camera with me (phone does not count), and for the RX100 was needed. So if you want to have a more than acceptable image quality in a small package are well advised with the RX. Clearly one has in a MFT, Nex or Nikon 1 more expansion options, but the package is not as compact. Sony has here developed a product that certainly is not perfect, but is impressive well. I am looking forward to the Mark III.
