Sometimes enthusiasm makes in strange places air. And the expression of enthusiasm is sometimes just a slight sigh. That's what I've experienced with the short Fuji lens. Sharpness and contrast are very good. Color reproduction also.
I already have, "the 50", so the Fujinon XF 35mm F1.4 R (wg. Crops of from 1.5 to act 35mm focal length to the X-System cameras as a result of comparing the small aspect ratio smaller image circle as 50mm from). In addition, "the 28", so the Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R. Actually I had before, I now zuzulegen the 60mm macro lens. Then the realization came to me in between my Canon 85mm lens fast aperture (1.2) blends well with the X-E2 (is guaranteed every so when he accepted a glass block with an attached camera). And these two lenses are very close together. And then I could deal one day with the 14mm lens discussed here, to me, an acquaintance lent. This then meant that I have 14 now gained my self.
With a KB focal length equivalent of about 21mm, it has to offer a really great shot. This image section was not yet familiar beforehand. I had used years ago only a 24mm lens on full-frame and last a zoom with a 17mm focal length on a Canon APS-C (crop 1,6), so according to also 24mm. The difference therefore amounts to only about 3 mm focal length equivalent. Nevertheless, the difference seems to me much larger.
From the image quality produces the 14mm lens takes place in a different league as "the 50s" and "the 28" by Fuji. It belongs - As what sharpness and contrast, to a level of Leica and Zeiss with. It is suitable for brilliant landscape photos. The fantastically beautiful landscape of the Canary Island of La Gomera in shallow standing winter sun that shines through storm clouds, is almost tangible in three dimensions on some pictures.
It's difficult to compare apples and oranges. This is true when comparing between Fuji and Leica lenses. After all, the Fuji engineers have to design an automatic diaphragm and a functioning autofocus into the housing. And after all, the Leitz lenses are in full-size. This is also true when comparing lenses of a manufacturer. Finally, the 23mm 1.4 Fuji (35mm KB correspondence) should be Sptizenklasse. That I do not possess, and could never be used also. Nevertheless: My formulation of the headline that the 14mm lens is perhaps the best Fuji lens is acceptable. It is definitely one of the best Fuji lenses. And it plays well in comparison with all other lenses in the world with APSC top.
Gladly the 14mm lens would soon yet again compare directly with the 12mm lens from Zeiss. This I had already briefly "plan". Here, however, bothered me at the 12mm Zeiss the odd slow autofocus. The lens harmonizes so far not really with the X-E2. Maybe this will help because someday a firmware update? With the 14mm lens Fuji I immediately had "become friends". This was not so with the 12mm lens from Zeiss.
Therefore, top grade. 5 Stars.
