After Elton John was in 1970 with his second, self-titled album and the top 10 hit "Your Song" the breakthrough, he put in the same year another work gradually established itself as final in the pop business. While "Tumbleweed Connection" in the States as "Elton John" which reached Top 5, it surpassed its predecessor in the UK with a top 10 placing even more. Still, the 10 songs from the original version none was released as a single, as "Your Song", the chart peak until a time reached when "Tumbleweed Connection" had already gone into the charts. And so it happened that the current at this time Elton John single was not found on the current Elton John album. Added to this is that "Tumbleweed Connection is "stylistically difficult with" compare Elton John ", as it presents itself to more rock-heavy than the spreadable heritage grabbed predecessor. Preferred theme of the songs is the American (Wild) West, especially fascinated by the Elton's lyricist Bernie Taupin was (and still is ). My personal favorites are "Come down in time", "My Father's Gun", "Love Song" (exceptionally no John / Taupin composition), "Amoreena" and of course "Burn Down the Mission", the song which is probably the likely would have made the single, and the Elton always like to perform live (eg on "Live in Australia"). That I have enumerated smooth half of the songs, does not mean that the others are much worse, but I'm counting the aforementioned with the best Elton John songs ever. There are also on the Classic Years edition with "Into the old man's shoes" from the "Elton John" sessions and the almost nine-minute original version of "Madman Across the Water" with Mick Ronson on guitar, two bonus tracks that authentically the plate decide. "Tumbleweed Connection" is for me the best Elton John plates, even if it does not include a hit. And although it is not with "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" or "Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy" can measure, it deserves five stars, because it makes a whole lot more fun than, say, "Caribou".
