That lightning only extends when required, makes sense: you need it for the high-aperture objective barely. The image quality is very good up to ISO 800, the corner sharpness compared to the Exilims fantastic.
Operation via the dial around the lens is actually very practical. The often criticized, smooth wheel around the central button on the camera back is lack of latching may be easy to adjust, but not really dramatic. It is so far only 2x happened to me at 500 shots - then adjusts the exposure.
What I really appreciate is the ability to assign a function in the S90 a button. I opted for the manual white balance, which now goes very quickly: hold camera on white surface, press function key, white balance is adjusted to the ambient lighting - without having to open only one menu item.
Each white balance setting can be adjusted via the menu and the front adjusting rapidly in blues and reds. Another keystroke allows the correction for magenta and green. This shows the wide range of setting the camera, apart from free manual aperture and time choice.
The display is actually fantastic! Unfortunately, the brightness setting can only be changed in the menu, an automatic adjustment to the ambient brightness as the Exilims does not exist.
All in all, a very good camera, which comes with precise automatic functions, but also free to use. In addition, even in an elegant, understated black and without "in purple and silver" versions. I am very happy and regret the change of the Exilim (good operating concept and flat design) on the S90 is not (much better optical quality).
