I bought the 550D in March 2010, after having previously photographed for years with various Nikon DSRL's.
Some time ago I bought the 550D the Tamron 17-50 2.8 - a perfect combination in my opinion.
Actually, it was / I am very happy with the 550D, but since I am a technology-enamored Spielkind, absolutely had a 60D ago ... :-)
In the comparison I came out of identical conditions, ie in both cases using the Tamron 17-50 2.8.
So here are the advantages of the first 60D compared to the 550D:
- The body is larger, coarser rubberized and has a different surface structure, thus is better in your hand - important in larger lenses
- The viewfinder is noticeably larger and appears slightly tinted greenish (!) - Very pleasant
- The fold-out display provides with some shooting situations benefits, so you do not have to bend
- Built-in level
- Dial on the back for data entry and for browsing photos
- Backlit display
- Higher frame rate
- White balance in Kelvin adjustable - helpful when illuminated by energy-saving lamps
- AF module improved by several cross-type sensors
- Very durable battery (longer than the already very good battery of the 550D)
- Closure seems quality and it sounds good too - more for SLR
- More settings options
- Internal Raw Converter allows using a photos exact Kelvin adjusting the White Balance
... And here the disadvantages over the 550D
- Flash shooting with the lens used were all significantly underexposed - the 550D exposed perfectly with identical settings!
- Significantly heavier
- Operation is not as intuitive as with the 550D
To achieve dial for exposure adjustment during photographing poorly -
- Change the ISO setting without looking only possible with luck, because buttons next to the upper display for flat
- Fold-out display rattled at one of my two models, since it is not locked fit
- One always drags a relatively thick "logs" around with them, not so subtly as the 550, but has no advantage in terms of image quality!
- With mounted display protection is, depending on the thickness of the foil used, passing by closing the display, because the space between the display and housing is inadequate.
The quality of the photos is the same as already mentioned in relation to the visible resolution!
Same sensor, the same processor, but a slightly different software, because the colors are SOMETHING (!!!) appear differently. But these are really just niceties for Pixelschubser (like me :-)).
Those who wish can adjust the color using the supplied Picture Style Editor software, which can make the 550D with its little "plushy" reds sense. But only someone should answer it, who knows what he's doing really !!!
I'm using the settings "default" or "Neutral" with a somewhat reduced saturation of reds and also slightly different contrast curve (depths easily raised / heights easily reduced, which causes a slightly lower contrast).
An advantage in terms of image quality for the benefit of the two models I could here despite calibrated displays on the computer does not recognize (... even if "CHIP" the 60D in terms of image quality looks at 100%, the 550D but only at 93.3%. Something strange with the same sensor and a softer AA filter the 60D!?! a slight difference I would have felt to be appropriate due to the changed software engine, since the NR unit has been revised, but this drastic difference I push times more likely on the Testers affinity for new products.
"Traumflieger" on the other hand has the 60D attested due to the changed AA-filter 1878 2051 lines a slightly lower resolution than the 550D. But these are theoretical values that you will be able to see only under laboratory conditions, which therefore does not affect the visible to the end user on your home computer screen have).
I opted for the 550, because I in the mountains little weight and size would have in good quality on walks through the woods or hiking.
If I were still as ambitious as before, ie with several (even larger) interchangeable lenses, but I would certainly prefer the 60D.
A 70-200er on the 550 makes I do not think soooo much sense because I have concerns when using a tripod that snatches the bayonet from the body.
But that's more of a gut decision. From Kunstftoff are finally both housing.
All three cameras, so my 550D and 60D, the two, the way problems of adjustment had. All had a slight front focus.
My 550 I can now adjust from Canon. NOW is the perfect results even at maximum aperture!
Too bad I can only find that one the first joy is spoiled after buying a new camera by mangelde manufacturing precision.
In the first of the two 60D still was the fact that on top of the two ground glass debris were, that would have to be removed only by the service of Canon.
But with Nikon I have ever experienced - so seems (unfortunately!) To be normal ...
