Today has arrived 18-135. So unpacked equal and smaller comparative test with the Minolta made 24-85. The weather was changeable and so I was able to take pictures when the sun and in cloudy conditions. I have tested with aperture 5.6 to 8.0. In my Sony A58, the lens corrections for 18-135 are on. Therefore, I have corrected the images from the Minolta 24-85 with DxO accordingly. Now to my subjective impression: The focus is virtually identical, both in the center as in the margin. I think that at the much larger range of 18-135 mean feat! AF speed: possibly a bit faster at 18-135. I also had from time to time on a 100mm AF indecisive. I already knew of the many reviews and do not bother me really, since I photograph most between 18-90mm. Interestingly, the pictures with Sony at the same focal length, ISO 100, the same shutter speed are slightly less exposed, about 1/4 to 1/2 aperture; eg: 6.3 to 5.6, 7.1 to 6.3. The colors are so praised by Minolta, are the Sony 18-135 par for my taste. For special applications, such as portraits with less light, I use the 50mm f / 1.8 and the 85mm f / 2.8.
This lens met my expectations as a good push with reasonable image quality. From my perspective, I would highly recommend this lens.
