The Carnegie Hall Concert ~ June 18, 1971 (Audio CD)

Customer Review

In the '60s Carole King was responsible for dozens of hits (including The Locomotion, Crying In The Rain, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow ...) together with her then-husband Gerry Goffin. Her solo career started after a few earlier attempts again at the beginning of the 70s. Her second solo album Tapestry should one of the best-selling albums of the decade, and in general be presented and then some records. 1971 was the year of Carole King. A year later she cleared at the Grammys in all major categories.
At the time of the concert at Carnegie Hall in June 1971, toppten her album and the single It's Too Late / I Feel The Earth Move simultaneously the charts and James Taylor had with his version of Carole King's song You've Got A Friend also a megahit. The expectations for the concert must have been quite high with the public. Carole King but this met with understatement. First they sang a few songs alone at the piano, then came bassist Charles Larkey to later guitarist Danny Kortschmar and a few strings. The highlight then appeared surprise guest James Taylor sang a medley and You've Got A Friend with her. Overall, the already fairly spartan arranged songs come in concert over yet reduced and still function well, which is mainly an indication of Kings songwriter talent.
Inexplicably eked this concert a quarter century of its existence in the archives and found in 1996 finally its release on CD.
In concert many songs from her debut Tapestry and writer came to the lecture, there was with Carry Your Load and Song Of Long Ago an outlook on their next album Music. With After All This Time the concert CD features plus is to find a song of my knowledge, only here. Between songs King told often something a bit shy at first, they will in the course always relaxed. The audience listens more attentively, but also goes well with a couple of songs like Smack Water Jack with. Vocally is King in Concert bit rougher over and tells herself that she was not a trained singer. The majority of the concert is very quiet and relaxed, exceptions to this are the snappy piano Grooves I Feel The Earth Move and Smackwater Jack.
The booklet is on several pages with detailed information about the concert and the time of Tapestry. The CD has a term of just below 72 minutes.

Conclusion:
The concert shows Carole King at the height of their popularity and is something of a (music-) historical time document. My favorites on the CD are hitherto unknown calm Songs After All This Time, Song Of Long Ago and Carry Your Load. At presentation, sound and features of the CD can not be faulted. Therefore full star number.
