I am of the opinion that one should evaluate a product, in fact, even after its "usefulness". That sounds a little confusing now, but useful an eReader is now once only (no matter how excellent the device itself is) if you also display eBooks for. Here the German-language novel market is virtually non-existent. There are the Spiegel bestseller list and beyond in novels an offer that currently have as extensive and attractive as the spontaneous purchase of a table Bahnhofsbuchhandlung. And whether this will change, everyone is allowed to assess themselves. That's why I disconnect here once this claim usefulness of my product from criticism. Who is interested in an eReader and made it to this product, probably knows anyway what is coming here on a.

Let's start with what the 350 can: sounds simple, but: it can display texts. Namely, in a fairly good quality. The writing is clearly delineated, "pixels" or "cover-up edge methods" as we know it from computer otherwise, there is not at this eInk technology. From simple "draufschauen" is the signature "as printed." It is not "black and white" but rather very very dark gray to light beige. Comparing these "deviation" from the ideal happy with the newsprint, and rightly so. Only one in a newspaper still sees the paper fibers and the paper as more gray is light beige as.

However, the display reflects light but very very (very) matt only! One would then hold the screen but deliberately unfavorable to the light source to say: Oh, that one sees but a bit disturbing.

As you scroll, which is located quite in the speed of a Papierbuchumblättern (if not faster), the page will be inverted briefly. This bothered me far less (not more) than I myself feared. It is believed that no longer true.

What the display but need is light. In the same way, like a paper book also, an eating maybe more, but that's probably just my imagination.

The 350 is the little brother of the 650s. The practical format you bought with a small display. One can say about half a page paperback comes in an even more readable for me font size on the screen. The reader itself is slightly larger than half a DVD case. (Yeah, I could have also cm measure, but I mags like in touchable images imaginable.)

The font size can be scaled in six steps, but are useful rather only two that can be changed at any time, of course. It's quick and intuitive. Also you can set different contrast calculations, but I admit that I still had no urge to explore this feature in more detail. The Normal setting reached me.

The display is a touch screen, a stylus is. I will personally but little use, the handwriting function I stop at the small screen rather a gimmick that would rather then scratched me with the time the display. So I use my fingers only from time to time to turn the page, depending on how I hold the device. This in turn can be very good because it's pretty easy. Fatigue Holding is absolutely possible.

(Addendum, as I pdf-s have now somewhat tested :) The best results for the reader you get the so-called ePub format, these books are designed for this Reader genera (or vice versa) and you get a (mostly) clean set book ... just as the pressure also. However, PDF files can be found so often and want to read this to you. So far I have only tested one-column PDFs are like most "PDF novels" set. It invites them, provides the reader "once" the most applied on DIN A4 full-page PDFs there. It thus evaporated the "print image" very one, this of course is unreadable.

BUT: by means of simple font size changeover (two Fingertapse) enforces a one Aufdröselung of the text in a normal readable size. But you can buy this part two disadvantages so a that but maybe not so much fall in the weight at most.

1) the reader interrupts the text new and quite clean as well to the Type enlarged text. The pdf-own page breaks but mostly as such interpreted. This may, depending on the initial size and set font size, lead to the (zBsp.) Stops every two and a half Reader pages of text from the middle of the screen (because since the PDF output side to end) and you thus here "earlier" the reader must turn the page again. Really no drama!

2) complicated pdfs with inserted graphics, footnotes (which can no longer catch with how the book with a sidelong glance, but now someday appear in Blätterfluß in the text) or even more columns bring the system but then stumble. But then offers rather the "Original view" (complete PDF as in the original) and the existing "zoom function" of the Sony Reader, which are very good, but just then did not make a reading experience the whole.

BUT: the novels that I have found to date as a pdf (Simple continuous text) can be wonderful, even without an extra conversion on the PC, read. From time to time is just one side only "half full" and possibly set the PDF page numbers should be ignored, but that's all quite fluently and read "Sony Reader pleasant".

Now for the negatives: the instructions that come with, is very scarce. This can be found after the first complete charging instructions on the device. If it were, consistently. For that I searched through once how stupid the package to the software to be installed. But this is also on the Reader and plugs into Windows as a separate drive (in addition to the Reader drive!) A. The find, open it and therefore is something for people who (though really only some) have some computer experience.

Important to me to mention: although such a great reader to the contrary seduced: Read helps, especially the smaller cable to transfer books instructions (two on the reader it). Indeed, contrary to the assertion of some books stores you need to buy copy-protected books (or to borrow in some Stadtbücherreien ... yes, there is) not (!) Software suite from Adobe, but from there an ID that you can easily get on their side. Then you have to "register" its readers with that used in Adobe User ID. But is, in fact, everything in the "smaller" of the two instructions.

Also no meter high hurdle, but "elegant and easy to get started" is another way. But this is just more debt of copy protection on some books.

Nevertheless 5 stars because I think once that has yet to be scheduled to some capacity for suffering, you want to have a good reader of (the few) German eBooks.
