It is indeed often reported that the NAS does not go into standby. This is only partly the problem. The real problem is that the programmers of My Cloud have not worked properly. When setting up their own new release and there then stores content that My cloud always starts with, "Check" of the site. It does not matter whether you have set that this has only privately and password allows access or even set up a public share. It is also not care if you have set for the release of media-serving or not. The My cloud always starts trying to check the contents. If you then a backup, for example, there saves the file version history of Windows 8, you have already lost. For me, the cloud days then tried actually even more weeks to scan 150,000 music files or 80,000 image files etc.. Here they rödelt around without ceasing on the hard disk, a standby is prevented. Even if you delete the release again, this behavior will not change.
The support can then first send a log file. Then you hear a week nothing. Then we get the notice, you may the cloud but please revert to the factory settings. And in fact, the full reset to factory state, the only way to enable the cloud back into a usable state.
But woe: Come not to the idea of bespeichern own release with data of any kind ;-) For then the whole nonsense from the front we go!
Solution: The already set by the factory approvals "SmartWare" and "Time Machine Backup" you can assign data of any kind, without the cloud checked this. (Media Serving must of course be switched off for the release) In the release "Public" you can then, as expected, slide, photos, videos or music files that you want to share with media streaming.
So the cloud goes smoothly in standby and is also fast.
The hard drive itself is in fact really good.
She is:
+ Quiet!
+ Quick (I get loose up to 80 MB / sec)
+ And the user interface itself is also very well thought out.
+ The price-performance ratio is very good
It is a pity:
- Bad programming
- A lousy Support
It's a pity that does not react the Support to the notes on issue. It would be easy for WD to change the programming. Since, however, this does not respond, the problem persists and most users then send the cloud back even though the hardware is perfectly fine. It would only have the software to be reprogrammed to ensure that the set of things (new release, Media Serving = off) are actually implemented by the hardware.
If the support is not so bad and the programming better, the cloud could easily fit 5 star worthy and get by me.
Update: Today I have for the first time connected an external hard drive to the USB port of the cloud.
ATTENTION: In this case begins the cloud without warning, to catalog the contents. The USB hard drive is mounted as a release and even the content examination we go .......
I'm curious whether WD eventually corrects this error ....... It's super annoying!
Update 2: Well, that's it! After I had made the mistake and a USB drive had just hung on the USB port of the NAS, caught the part immediately with the By scanning the entire 2GB data to the disk. This also did not hear on, no matter how many days I waited. And, although I had activated the media scan only in the public release. Why scans the cloud all approvals ??????
I have the part sent back to 6 weeks because I have no desire to make the beta testers for WD.
Small side note. Shortly after I have the WD My Cloud returned, the support announced at me. This time, another employee who obviously had a clue. He had read my review here ;-)
Lo and behold, this employee said he would have my log data (the same ones that the other staff had examined previously, and then realized that I could undo the cloud only to factory condition) looked and found that it has a solution had he wanted to try me.
My suggestion, I like to send a free trial copy, so I can ausprobieben his idea, unfortunately remained unanswered until today ;-)
This is yes a bad joke! I seriously wonder who releases the first support engineer to the customer. It takes longer for a good support to let go as an unskilled students or other auxiliary power without in-depth knowledge of the product to the customer. This apparently has the whole thing now, unfortunately for me.
For those sufferers who have not given up the beta testing: Good luck !!!
I have since purchased an equal NAS by a competitor of WD and am very satisfied with the device. It does what it should. The device is also quite a few years in small changes in the market and not a beta test defenitiv more .....
Have reduced to a star the vote. To get the cloud because is looks nice. THIS is it for now all that remains to praise
