As an old Jak fan I have gained me this game right on the date of publication. And in the games themselves is of course nothing to complain about. These are the same excellent games that it was always.
The port, however, is a disaster.
The controller has been negatively mentioned by the other reviews but that is true, the problem is not even close. The controls are so sensitive that small corrections are simply not feasible. I write this review after I failed in "Jak 3" for a full hour on lizard race. I have the game on the PS2 3 through plays and am now failed in the Vita version for an hour on the 4th mission. Tactile changes of direction are simply not possible. Each touch of the stick allows Jak turn at 90 °.
Another problem is the frame rate. Someone should explain to me how it can be that Jak 3 on the PS Vita jerky while liquid running on the PS2. The Vita has more computing power than the PS2. We are talking about quad core 2GHz and 512 MB of RAM to 300 MHz and 32 MB. Why is jerky on a system that brings the 10-fold performance? Simple answer, because you have adapted the graphics on PS3 level and then ported to Vita. Thank you for graphics update but I'd rather have the old PS2 graphics but for a liquid (playable) game.
Jak and Daxter goes back into the box. And there it remains until a setting for the sensitivity of the control was hineingepatcht and a reduction in the resolution. Who likes to play at 15fps and HD graphics that supposed to do but I'd rather see pixels moving at about 30fps and where control does not suffer from hypersensitivity and Rubberbanding.
Edit: I wrote a post in the Official PlayStation Forums. I urge anyone who shares my problems with the game or chosen because of my review the game not to buy, to post the forum. With any luck, this will perhaps exert pressure on Sony nachzupatchen the deficiencies. Criticism from fans has finally taken care of a patch of the camera control fairly quickly even when "Soul Sacrifice".
