It was a moment that I wanted to mattaquer this monument of science fiction. The first part - split into two volumes in editing pocket (strange and bewildering choice of Pocket Editions, this is the second here) - is in the form of embedded narratives constituting so many pieces of a puzzle about the mystery of the Time Tombs and his guardian terrifying, the Gritche. Each pilgrim will in turn reveal to his companions what the have to participate in this quest dembûches sown. Meanwhile, we will be familiar with an incredibly rich and sophisticated universe to the smallest details, both politically and scientifically, where futuristic technology seems very plausible to believe that the author has done a very thorough academic background Fortunately, technical terms of proliferation more or less invented does not hinder the understanding of history. In addition, Simmons has a real talent and knows décriture infuse poetry, including the description of the varied landscapes of the 200 worlds Retz, demonstrating the author at a very developed imagination.
That being said, I'm still not really back of enthusiasm in tune with this first volume, to the fascinated that captivated moment. Each story is too short and no obvious link with the other to produce a sufficient effect crescendo. But closing the last page, I have really wanted daborder result of this enigmatic work, and in this sense, I consider this first successful pane.
