certainly was a pretty much hits the last wasbrubeck expected when he entered the studio for the recordings.
thanks to various performances, the charming pianist had already earned with the glasses an enviable fan base.
but thankfully the popularity Brubeck never held on the experiment.
he plays a one of the most popular jazz albums of all time, with the numbers it actually was quite unusual (here is the trick !! buried)
the master piece "Take 5" is written clock in 5/4, which actually does not guarantee swing. but Brubeck rose here in a near-hypnosis, contrasting rhythm, while the real star of this Quartet, Paul Desmond on alto saxophone delivers superior performance, one must not forget that he take 5 composed. just the melody to Take 5 is so famous and catchy that you probably want to play the beginning of each brass ... (and not only wind instruments but also almost all the jazz guitarist and pianist ....)
Desmond is ever mentioned in particular: he was not perhaps the best technical Winds of jazz, or begnadeste. some say he played a little air arm us powerlos. But this supercooled art, this casual and fat apathetic style makes this quartet of only and is guarantor of the enormous success.
important also confidently swirling percussion Joe Morello, or the very solid bass of Eugene Wright so difficult material like
"Blue Rondo ala Turk" (in 9/8 time) or "Three to Get Ready" (alternates between 3/4 and 4/4) expertly and absolutely effortlessly transform into jazz classics. and all propagated at a time in which people like Coltrane, Taylor or Coleman Free Jazz.
Brubeck was unfortunately due to this enormous success of jazz critics scorned and down made. which is in jazz at that time just as today: wiedersprüchliche logic, wenns many people like ists not a real jazz more .... What a nonsense .....)
the sound moves on a delightfully attractive levels which strikes a diffizilen Morello mix slowly with the wonderfully clear bass Wright while piano and the great Desmond warm and clear their solis and reef down spieln .. a real treat !!
Conclusion: audible jazz ?? jazz to attack, not necessarily virtuosic or lengthy, quite the gegnteil, refreshing and unique. the starting point for all the kind of music never liked. you have to have at home !!
