Witches - A subject that I love to read in YA books. So far, however, there was little new and as HOUSE OF IVY AND SORROW came along with this beautiful cover, I wanted to read :) The book was not bad, but also not really good ... I'm very ambivalent in all respects it absolutely. The idea of the young girl, who is a witch and not really know who their family is = not new. The way the author describes magic = Pretty interesting. Protagonist Jo lives with her grandmother (why always all live with their old, wise grandmother? XD) because her mother is dead and her father disappeared. The main story revolves around the curse that always does life Jo's family and nobody knows what it actually is. Jo was a figure with whom I have come along well. She was an average guy in pretty much all. Quite nice, but not very popular. Pretty clever, but often times dumber. Every now and again funny, but mostly rather stubborn. Basically just someone you may like, but do not blow your mind or completely convincing.
The fantasy elements in the book I loved implemented. Witches, demons, magic ... everything we know and love come into this book before it. The moral "everything has a price" was also described horrifying captivating in many places. Sometimes it was really disgusting, I tell you. There have always been little contact or surprises which has built confidence in the otherwise somewhat slower plot the author. The secondary characters were all OK. Jo's friends liked quite well and especially when all three were together came to a nice feeling of friendship. The love story also runs in some other tracks. There was not a triangle, but an infinite number of stupid allusions. Unfortunately, the matter was not properly explained to the curse, and the resolution was really a joke. Wasted potential.
