Dark Hero Marseille

Dark Hero Marseille

The Adventures of Guilhem Ussel, knight troubadour: Marseille, 1198 (Paperback)

Customer Review

First volume of this series of historical inquiry novels (though one episode from 0 contant us Guilhem youth came out), so we discover the knight troubadour Guilhem Ussel in a kidnapping story that will be leaving Marseille ramifications to the Holy See of Rome. For his debut our hero will remain quite mysterious about his past that are seemingly still quite dark and not always glorious. We will also discover his future great friend, a certain Robert of Locksley (Robin Hood himself!) That goes here for the first time crossed his path and give it a serious helping hand to solve a nebulous and dangerous investigation.

A dark story and hard as his time, strong characters and well built, it was a real good discovery. Although historically integrated although less descriptive than the Pierre Naudin example, the story is smoothly conducted, dynamic and intelligently present all the important characters in the series. I did not know the author and I found her very nice pen, clear and without embellishment. The only flaw would be a story where I got a little lost among the many characters and different rights and powers that revolve around Marseille.

But ultimately this is a book I read I almost in one go before quickly order the following volumes that will make us travel in the footsteps of our poet warrior like the title suggests!
