The trailer for After Earth has made even increase my hope, but saw from the great landscapes made for music a la "Disney's Dinosaurs". And that he can provide such kind of scenario with good music he has impressively demonstrated already in "King Kong".
Unfortunately After Earth as a whole is considered very weak and is barely 3 stars.
I have not yet seen the movie, so the review is based solely on the music, and this seems unfortunately often very weak.
The score has a lot of tracks but it also too many pieces less than 2 minutes, every now and then even less than 1 minute. That's unusual for Howard and disrupts the flow of the music, then as, in "The Last Airbeder" which is much better managed.
The large number of pure "horror / voltage" pieces is very high, this act may be good in the film, there are on the CD but only from 1-2 effects which span 1 minute and do not have a musical flow. They are simply trying to hear.
Unfortunately, these pieces, gepart with something boring ambience music occupies the largest part of the composition and has really disappointed me.
For me there is at least not a main theme which holds together the album and serves as musical anchor, also has Howard made much better in the past.
The piano is from time to time present in the score, but never reached the class of earlier works.
But then there are these pieces "ghosting" or "" After Earth "where Howard shows all his skill, and which are on very high level. The orchestra flexes its muscles and you're absolutely impressed. This shows the enormous talent for melodies and beautiful music which distinguishes Howard for many years.
These bright spots ensure that the score still gets 3 stars, but recommended it is by no means unlimited.
