1984 (Paperback)

Customer Review

In this book, written in the aftermath of the Second World War, Orwell depicts terrifying way a totalitarian world, where the influence "party" on the minds is (almost) total. Built around an officer in charge of rewriting of history (sic), the storyline is simple, and the style is easily accessible. The interest of the book lies mainly in his side "prophetic" (which today has not heard of Big Brother?).
Orwell sensed the threat and gives 1984 with a real warning, a call for vigilance. Against all forms of totalitarianism, counters the centralization of power, against ignorance and manipulation, and in defense of freedom of expression. It's not only a denunciation of totalitarianism of the past (Nazism, Stalinism etc ...), but also a warning to democratic regimes, where, following the destruction of critical thinking and because, can set in the "voluntary" servitude of the masses. Written by a man of the left, it is a book to be read by all, whatever your position on the political axis!
