First the positive things:
- The router is a short study of the manual easy to adjust, the Quick Start Guide does what it promises.
- The Wi-Fi network is very stable radiates from us farther than expected. Since the router must radiate in our apartment by many walls, I already had the fear that you could have no reception in the garden or at the other end of the apartment, which is not so.
- The Eye buys with and would be surfing when there no block is on the table. The router provides the external relatively chic. The criticism that the router looks processed cheap, I do not share.
The negatives:
- As noted previously occupied when using a USB flash drive of the Print Server. Either you can connect a printer or a UMTS stick. Both together will not do. This could, however, remedy a printer with built-in Wi-Fi.
- Why I would not buy me the router again and only three stars can be awarded: In almost all 3G wireless routers, bsp. Netgear or at the Surf & Phone Box T-Mobile, it is possible to adjust the stick so that it contacts only the UMTS / HSDPA network. This is not possible with the Edimax. While the display shows the "3G only" menu, this refers only to the setting if you want to use the broadband DSL connection or the stick preferably.
The consequence in our UMTS / HSDPA outskirts: While I can adjust the stick so with my PC connection software that he chooses only the HSDPA / UMTS network, that goes with the Edimax not - here's all free network selection. While I was a DSL-1500 speed hammer out with the connection software on the PC with my stick, go to the router maximum Edge - the enstpricht on good days DSL light with transfer rates far below the 500 KB.
The company Edimax has already published the final software for this router, thus rectified is no longer. Furthermore, Edimax advertises that the software is free software that could be further developed externally by users. However, you will find nowhere according Non programmed software, but the numbers just seem to be too low.
Conclusion: For people who live in UMTS / HSDPA border areas, the router is only partly, because an important setting - the choice of network UMTS modems - can not be made. So if you stick by only one Edge or GPRS network gets proposed without connection software should not access better. Couple surfing on an Edge-line via router from the Internet speed of pure overkill. I'll give the router and probably grow me in the near future a router that provides this setting.
